Let me start by apologising because I'm sure this question has been asked and answered before. I searched but was unable to find any thread. Many people talk about an app gap but what is this actually? Which apps (that we really need) are not available on BB10? I have been looking around BBW, GooglePlay and Amazon Appstore and I don't miss anything on my Passport. Having said that, I don't really use much.

You should also remove Google Play from the equation. Sideloading Google Play and patching apps is not something normal consumers are expected to do today.

I did not sideload GooglePlay, I checked it out on someone else's Android.

This is a purely subjective question. Everyone's interests and needs are different. But most smartphone users have come to expect access to:

Social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat
Video apps like Netflix, Vudu, Hulu, and Amazon Video
Music apps like Spotify, Google Play, and Amazon Music
    The latest games

BB10 does have some excellent and unique apps, and there are many third party versions of big-name apps that work decently enough.

But there is absolutely no denying an app gap exists.

I'll take a look at my DTEK50 here and list apps I use.

    Allo
    ESPN
    ESPN Fantasy Sports
    Nest
    VUDU
    NETFLIX
    Sonos
    Spotify
    Hulu
    Disney Movies
    YouTube
    Untappd
    Instagram
    Twitter
    Snapchat
    Nextdoor
    Linkedin
    Imgur
    Reddit
    Dropbox
    Box
    Google Drive / other apps
    VGPC
    CLZ Games
    Starbucks
    Banking Apps
    GoDaddy
    Other shopping apps
    Chamberlin My Q
    Fly Delta
    Xbox
    TripIt

And that's just a small portion of apps I use regularly.

Sure many have half baked alternatives or can be rigged to work, but the experience is not fluid.

I LOVE BB10 and still believe it was the best OS ever, but they never got the apps people need/want.

Some people don't really have a need or don't use apps, social media , ect. And some people's needs are different. Bb10 is a fab OS, but if you require apps, apps that work properly , and update then it is probably not the OS for them. The average consumer is not like a lot of us around here. The general consumer expects to buy something and it just works. You can't expect your mother to start side loading Instagram to get it to work

Yeah the app gap is subjective based off what you use. That being said more people are being forced through work and otherwise to use these apps and there's already several that bb10 can't run. If you don't require these apps then you're fine but every person has different needs.

PassportSQW100-4/10.3.3.2205 for me. No app gap problem for me as work device but as @Carjackd states, we each have our ow needs. Even though BB10 is my daily driver I still use dtek60 and Priv as well.

For me it's Microsoft Office, banking apps with mobile deposit, Google apps, DRM video player, and remote server / ftp access.

Thanks guys. I agree there is an app gap. I also agree that the gap depends on what you use. For now, there is only one app that I really need and can't have on BB10 or via the Internet. If I get an Android now, I'll be under-ultilising it at the expense of a fluid hub, awesome battery, amazing search function and unmatched productivity (at least for me). So! See you on the other side. In the loooong term.

My Priv and dtek60 are used with teamviewer for remote support to my customers. BB10 is my Hub.

Well, the one thing missing is Google Play Services. It's a hit or miss with any app you use.

I just got netflix working for the first time the other day on my passport!
Spotify works great, too. Only thing for me that falls in the 'app gap' is snapchat but I have other Android devices to fall back to

Haven't tried installing the apk personally but I'm assuming you have...realistically the app isn't that much different from the browser version anway, especially on the tiny screen
