Yes it is possible... why wouldn't it be?

I think Carriers and Insurance companies should require OEM's to offer some level of waterproofing. But it does add cost to the device,..

Well sadly all this so called professionals are as 99% outdoor wimps and wouldn't need a rugged BB and the 1% that would like to have a rugged BB if it would ever be developed, well this 1% of bushcraft guys wouldn't take a mobile out in to the wood's anyway, rather a big knife or some more food.
Out in the wood's is no EL socket available known to anyone out there and live out in the wood's is way more challenging, entertaining and interesting no need for a mobile at all, apart from that, there wouldn't be net coverage anyway so what's the point of carrying a toy for no use.
By the way this applies to any phone not just BB...
    Lol...

Currently available waterproof phones are not actually waterproof.

If you look through the internet forums, there are tons of Sony and Samsung waterproof phone owners whose phones are water damaged, and the manufacturers are not warrantying any of those, blaming users.

Take a look at some of these links.

    http://www.abc.net.au/technology/art...15/4107561.htm

    http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/...sues-warranty/

    http://www.thefullsignal.com/sony/so...all-waterproof

The current waterproofing on smart phones is far from perfect. It is better to take care of your phone, and keep it away from water, rather than having a false sense of security that a phone can be waterproof.

If I need a sort of waterproof or outdoor phone with battery time from up to 14 day I still got this one in my draw, not exactly a smartphone but ok for calling SMS and a bit of Internet if needed depending on the signal.
