OK downgrading is more trouble than its worth when you're a Mac user and have to drive to Mum's house every half an hour to use her Windows laptop! Decided to stick with this leak. Aside from the WhatsApp hub issue everything seems to work A-OK.... so far

Sorry to be Mr Thicky, but the file I end up after download is 10.1.0.1627_stl100-2and3.rar - a non-executable file. What am I supposed to do with this?
Extract it. Use WinRar or something. Then go to the extracted folder, you should see an exe file. Run that.
Curve 9300 > PlayBook +> 9900 +> Z10
Go for the HTC one or take a chance on Z10 it seems you are focused on Google apps whcih suggest android or Z10 - if your primary need is multitasking / messiging / security - then it's Z10 otherwise it's HTC one HTC one features the highest ppi btw stay away from apple 5 as it seems you don't need it, and it won't suite your needs in term of google apps
sorry wrong thread
Thanks - never come across other zip things like RAR - cheers.
The update went through, although there was a message that flashed up about something not quite working on the PC - it disappeared before I had a chance to read in full. I now have 10.1.0.264, not 627 as expected - is this right?
I know you all say we should not restore "settings" and just set the Z10 up again after an upgrade.
BUT, has anyone actually successfully restored "settings"? Mine goes to 100% but never ends. This time I've gone 30 minutes and it still hasn't completed. I know it takes a while to settle down. Has anyone had it finish?
If you restore you have to do a selective restore, uncheck all data then select media and settings, I start from scratch as there was some apps I didnt want from the prior os, you can choose to restore the app data if you want, but all three must be checked, then you will see it complete, if you do check restore app data be ready to wait for a while as it might take some time depending on the amount of apps it has to restore

So, you have seen the restore complete? Hmmm.. I do apps and media first, separately, and they don't take that long, maybe ten minutes. Then I do settings. It never completes. It goes to 100% fairly quickly, but just stays there. If I disconnect, everything seems to be there except my account passords.
I've seen a full restore, just apps and settings and just settings all restore. They were all useless though so I did a fresh install eventually..

Thanks.
Just updated and everyting seems good so far. I'm gonna skip doing any kind of restore and just set it all up from the beginning to minimize the risk of bugs and such.
Then I must have something in my settings that is causing a problem. Great.
Actually yes it does, seem to hang at %100 but does follow through and completes, and I dont have saved passwords either

Interesting. The other thing I notice is that the BlackBerry model is now for everyone to use email accounts that use active sync, so they don't back up pop email messages.
Wow - it actually works!
And almost all of my problems with the device seem to be fixed - Twitter, Facebook and BBW are loading almost instantly, updates work on BBW, startup time is far quicker, the 30 day email nonsense has been extended to 90 days, you can get 5 minute email polling and other good stuff, including some helpful signage and so on.
The sensitivity of the period hasn't changed - I've managed to send messages several times when typing in an email address and hitting 'submit' instead of '.' but that's very minor.
Thanks for all help on this - and thank Blackberry for fixing stuff that very nearly got me to switch to an HTC One or Samsung G4 - get the update out officially guys, before anyone else gives up on the device.
By the way, does anyone know if the 5 minute email polling is likely to significantly increase data and battery usage?
I had been using it through colorled for three accounts and it didn't seem to be that bad.
Some things to try if restore doesn't seem to work...
I've had difficulties doing a full restore, and these have helped, for reasons obscure to me.
1. Put phone in airplane mode before starting the restore.
2. If the restore seems to hang at a particular point, and there's no indication of PC disk activity for several minutes, cancel the restore on the phone first, by clicking the cancel button there. The X in Link may not do anything. Then close Link down and disconnect the phone. Reboot the phone. Start Link again and reconnect the phone and try it again.
I've noticed that on the first restore attempt after a fresh OS installation, Link will show the PIN but not the device name, and the restore will often stall. After doing step 2 above, when the phone is reconnected it shows the device name in Link, and the restore goes through without error (but very slowly on my underpowered computer).
I've had some problems with usb drivers on link
I tinkered with it for two days bwfore I finally did something to get it to again recognize the device when i connect it to my pc.
I wish I could tell you what finally solved the problem but it was just too many things I tried.
All I can say is try and delete and reinstall drivers an day be set a device password.

Thanks, ubizmo.
I can't send text messages with 1627. Hmmm. Not happy. Tried rebooting, no help.
