    Ok so I'm using a blackberry z10

My understanding from the new bb10 os was that it accesses data like other android phones, no need for bbm plans or bis servers etc it all just works.

I've ported my number over to lycamobile UK and used their APN settings.

Now everything works, browsing, email etc etc just not BBM first it said no blackberry plan, then I connected to wifi and got past the first screen, since disconnecting from wifi the small four dots icon next to signal strength hasn't come back and and I access bbm.

    Anyone's help is deeply appreciated.

Turn off your phone and restart. That should work

Go to settings > about > change the category to network and then press the three dots at the bottom right and press register BlackBerry

I'll be interested to know if that works. That's a pretty well hidden setting.

Done all of those it says registers to blackberry service but nothing changes, even when I add contacts onto bbm it says invitations sent but they just sit there in bbm and never go anywhere

This post from a while ago also suggests problems:

Lycamobile do not appear to be BlackBerry friendly. It is possible that they are blocking certain services for one reason or another.
Call their customer support and ask if you are getting a full or a restricted Internet service.

I notice that the lycamobile US site FAQ states that they cannot guarantee that bbm works. The UK site doesn't include that FAQ at all.
