If I buy a factory unlocked phone from BlackBerry, will I receive updates from them or will I have to wait for AT&T to release the update?

I'm thinking about trading in my AT&T Black Z10 for a White Z10.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Until BlackBerry starts releasing updates themselves thus bypassing carriers, you receive updates from whichever carrier's SIM card is in your phone whenever they choose to release them.

If you buy a phone unlocked from BlackBerry. You are in the enviable position of being able to update as soon as it's available by inserting a sim from the carrier that has it. The sim doesn't even have to be activated.

I don't understand that if it's sum free why they can't just push the update.

I have a moto g dual sim which I imported into the UK from India and it got the Kitkat update pushed to it from Motorola, why can't bb do this?

Actually, a lot of people who had factory purchased and unlocked phones got updates even while having an AT&T sim in place.

Only if you bought the phone from AT&T would you have to wait on them using their sim - even if you unlocked it later.
