BlackBerry seems to have messed up universal search in 10.3.1. Previously I could on my z10 hit the search button, type what I want, and comes up.

The new thing is such so bewildering. I don't want to use my voice . I have to swipe up to bring up the keyboard.

Is there a way to turn off blackberry assistant?

I was also concerned how to use it.
In fact I just need to click in the text search field at the center of the screen and start typing (keyboard is coming up automatically)
Not a big deal, just the graphics it's a bit unclear, was not clear there was a text field in the center.

That text box is very laggy. Takes ages for keyboard to come up

You do see the "type here to begin, right"?

It's not much of a change, but the UI is a bit different. Honest, you get used to it.

I agree mate. They've botched one of the best features of the whole phone. Do you also find that the results of the search are almost illegible, with the time/date overlaying the text?

Awful. The results are worse than what it used to be.

Before it was so simple. Now there is this side thing which is so small that there is no point it being there!
