I've noticed some really strange behavior. I've got somebody's phone number stored as e.g. +1 5555555555 and +1-555-555-5555. The former I can dial whereas the last one will not go through. This happened on both 10.1 as well as on 10.2.1 now (on my Q10).

Is there some weird setting somewhere I should be aware of ? For the record, I'm on Netcom in Norway.

Not sure. I've always put numbers in with no 1 and no spaces, hyphen or anything.

Has anyone seen this? Or better yet, could someone with a BB10 try to store & call phone numbers such as
    +1 (555) 555 5555

and let me know if these go through (switching out the 5's with a real number, obviously) ?

If I remember correctly, I couldnt put any symbol in phone numbers with my old BlackBerry Pearl 3G (9100), but I created contacts on my Z10 based on the forms (555) 555-5555 and 1-555-555-5555 and I can dial them without any problem (at least on 10.2.1 in Canada). So parentheses, spaces or hyphens are not an issue for me. I'm sorry I couldn't give you any advice other than contacting your service provider.

By the way, I agree that a number with correctly spaced digits is far more readable than one long string of digits.
