According to Utbblogs.com 10.3.1 "will be released in the UK on the 27th January for all current devices and that this will NOT be carrier dependent in other words BlackBerry will push the update direct to handsets which, if you ask me, is great news for us all."

    Let's see if it happens.

True that. I'll make sure some popcorn is ready so I can just read all the complaining and laugh.

Sounds fishy. If I'm not mistaken John Chen previously said it will be going to carrier testing in Mid December with an expected roll out of February.

If it was going to release irregardless of carrier, why would he bother mentioning carrier testing?

That was before tho. Maybe the process changed?...because he acknowledged the roaring of the Crackberry Community for the 10.3.1 update!

Actually, technically the post said all UK carriers. So this is sitll not a worldwide rollout. Maybe that is the day all UK carriers are expected to complete approval. UK is typically the fastest with this kind of thing I think, so this makes sense as Canada will likely receive it shortly after, followed by other countries.

It's based on UK carriers as you mentioned, not global. Of course, once an official build lands it's available to those who want to take matters into their own hands.

Even if said Blog site is highly distinguished, unless BlackBerry has said it themselves, always take the information with a pinch of salt.

The fact that there are no sources and it says it's carrier independent makes it feel false....

I would love BlackBerry to make their updates carrier independent, but to my knowledge, only Apple has the rights to do that and it's because they have such large influence, BlackBerry can't... right?

Pretty sure BlackBerry could just do if they wanted to. The worst that could happen is that the carriers drop their support but it's not like they're offering much support as it is.

Hehe with pepper to sneeze it out and start all over again.

Let's say it will be official update rollout in the UK:
I was wondering if it would be possible getting the update in Germany with a sim card from EE-UK? I have a spare one but next time I'll be in England will be April.
