Where I live in Toronto there have been huge taxi protests against Uber at city hall. Nobody knows the outcome. Apparently some car insurance companies have been calling drivers and asking if they drive for UberX and if they say yes then the insurance company cancels their car insurance.

Well that would make sense because your auto policy has always excluded coverage if you're using your auto to provide taxi services. Same thing if you use car to deliver pizza or other commercial endeavours that increase your liability risk.

Did you get notifications when your car arrived and at the end of your trip? I'm trying to figure out if uber is still using Google Play Services at all.

As I said, the mobile website works perfectly, including notifications. Absolutely no need for an app.

In some cities, yes. I use it because it is cheaper in the cities where I am most often, and I can hop in and out without worrying about payment.

Plus you get a push notification when the car is arriving so you don't have waste time waiting outside.

I mean I don't have to take my wallet out or even tap my phone. The car arrives at my destination and I just say thank you and get out. It's the little things.

Just tried to install the app via Snap. It's ridiculous the permissions it requires... I declined it and deleted it.

I'll keep using m.uber.com with BB10 browser but thanks though for the info.

No, of course it isn't free. You associate credit cards (personal, business, etc) with your account when you set it up. Or if you have an iPhone, you can use Apple Pay and then you don't need to tell Uber your credit or debit card numbers.

When you request the car you select if it's personal or business and that's it. When you arrive at your destination you say bye and leave. The cost is billed to your card and your receipt is pushed almost immediately to the app and your email. And then the app prompts you to rate the ride (which you can of course do later at your convenience)

On the rare chance I have to take a regular cab I once walked right out of the cab without paying. The driver didn't like that so much.

Completed a ride using my Q10 tonight. Noticed two issues.
    1. GPS location was about 100-150m off. This may have more to do with being in China than being on BB10
    2. The map view is only about the size of a stick of gum, so you really need to be familiar with where you are.

So I understand that you could finish ride with no general issues, right?
