Just upgraded my Q5 to 10.3.1, and while it definitely takes some getting used to, the one feature driving me crazy is the (relatively) giant compose button in the hub.

Is there a way to turn that off? It used to go away when you scrolled, but now it is always there eating some of my precious screen real estate.

Ugggg... that's disappointing. I live in the Hub, and that thing is starting me in the face constantly.

That's how they make you buy a Passport.

But in all seriousness, 10.3.1 isn't too Q5, Q10 or Classic friendly.
The giant 'end call' button was scary on my Q10, since I love to swipe back into the hub when I'm on longer calls.

The problem is that the button eats up 3 lines of text, right where I read messages. It is counter productive, and terrible. Who needs to compose a message while scrolling? Hard to believe this problem exists even on the classic.

Anyways I have a workaround: hit the search button and the bar goes away.

Yes, I might get used to it, but if it wasn't broke, why did they "fix" it?

Because the mobile professional is a power-user always on the go, and BlackBerry feels that they best know the needs of the mobile professional. You see, mobile professionals need that quick access to their most commonly used feature - the compose button, so that they can rapidly unholster their phone and fire off emails. Never underestimate the needs of the yuppie to rapidly compose emails anytime, anywhere.

The mobile professional is 90% more likely to compose a new message before searching for an existing email or looking for attachments, hence the big compose button.

But have no fear - if you don't need the button there, you can hide the action bar. Well, parts of it anyway, the button remains there while parts of the bar break away leaving it looking like it is missing teeth.

It really is useful but if it takes up your screen then reduce the font size... more items will be visible...

It can be useful, but certainly not while scrolling. The old system where things would popup and fully dissappear work better, IMO

I fully agree. The old behaviour, when the (complete) bar disappeared while scrolling was a much better approach. At least on the q10/q5.

Lol, if you turned it off, how would you compose any messages?

Using the overflow menu to compose would not be user friendly

Hit c to compose on Q10. Works a charm.

I don't mind the button but I do mind that it doesn't drop with the rest of the bar.

I second this gripe. The disappearing bar at the bottom was a great feature and now it just eats up real estate. Not to mention it's ugly.

Either hit a key (on a keyboard device), or touch the screen and move for a sec to make the bar appear like it did in 10.2.1.

I do get the idea of "most common actions" appearing, but on the main hub screen, it seems to me the most common action is reading, not composing. Really though, how great would it have been if this was configurable, ie. set your own "most common action" or turn it off here? Given that the most recent devices have all been keyboard based, I'm especially surprised to see this be one pushed out. On a Classic, with dedicated hardware buttons, it makes even less sense.

"Compose" must have been the most common action for the 3 people involved in the focus group.

To the rest of us, we all have different ideas of what the button should be.

For me, I don't want any action button highlighted - make them all the same size and stop them from spilling over the top of the bar.
I'm not a fan of the bar appearing/disappearing while scrolling either. I find it obnoxious and irritating. Just leave it in one place.

I find it more annoying, when reading an e-mail. The reply all, back, and 3 bars don't go away. The option is there in settings> display. Hide action bar while scrolling but it only partially disappears.
