This method has only been tested on OS 10.1.0.4543

In Engineering Screen, under section "OS Engineering screen", item "CPU Performance Level Statistics", there is an option to "Put Core1 Offline".

The option is automatically switch ON by Blackberry OS when battery drops below 20%.

By manually switching it ON (even when battery is full), I immediately notice a decrease in battery drain (10-30mA when in use, no decrease when screen is off). After a few days of testing, it seems to improve battery life a little bit (15-20 minutes of extra usage time), without any noticeable performance impact, but I don't play any games so not sure if there is any game performance impact.

Yes, you can save gasoline/petrol by restricting your car to a maximum of 40mph/64kph, but some people need to actually get on the highway/autobahn sometimes.

I'd be more impressed were it 5+ hours gained. I can get well over an hour extra just by making a couple adjustments in settings.

Makes sense. Main power draw is screen.

I'm no math whiz but I think 15-20mins on a 12hr battery is statistically irrelevant given the different usage of the phone on a daily basis.

My usage pattern is very regular, and 15-20 minutes improvement is quite noticeable given that Z10 normally only gives me 3 and half hours of usage time.

Yea no... lol saving 20 minutes of battery life by down grading to 1 core? Not worth it at all.

3 and a half hours something is definitely wrong.

    Definitely.

I've been getting a full day's usage from an overnight charging period ever since since the .4xxx leaks. No tricks necessary, not trying to conserve either. Before that, I think my worst day was 8ish hours use.

When I was on Android I actually got better battery life by overclocking my phones for this reason: faster processor made all the clunky animations run quicker and smoother, and I spent less time with the screen on, waiting for stuff to happen. A couple of milliseconds every time you try to do anything adds up.

I think 3.5 hours of actual usage is on par with many other phones I've owned.

By "usage" I mean screen time browsing the Internet or playing videos.

I like that analogy but, just like phones, all you need is the proper fuel map to get the same at 80mph:-)

It's all about balance. But alas battery technology has not come as far as the combustion engine.
