I very often just fish for the torch at night and it's terrible: half sleepy, unlocking the device, pull down the settings from the bazel, focusing the eyes to find the correct icon and voila; after all, light it was! And on the way home, when trying to find the keyhole on the door -- I could be murdered twice, while switching the torch on. How about to fill the empty left corner of the lock screen with the icon of the torch that could be activated by a long press?

Great idea. I've had to fumble to unlock the device just to use the flashlight many time myself.

If you install Privacy Suite Pro you have the facility to just flick the device to turn on the torch.

Adding a new hardware button is a task for the next generation of the devices, optionally [it's not my taste, now, when everything is about touch and swipe]. But adding a software button is a matter of a Monday meeting decision, it's for the most of the next generations and requires an update of the OS only.

And let's say, they add a convenience button and remove the camera from the lock screen. What now? I'd like both of them [the camera and the torch].

I would prefer giving the flash light access to the Mute / voice command button (in between the volume buttons) rather than having a icon on the lock screen where it would require atleast 2 steps to bring the flash light on. My old Nokia e63 had this feature of accessing the flashlight by pressing the space bar key. When locked the flashlight is on as long as the space bar key is pressed. When unlocked the flashlight comes on by long pressing the space bar. Something similar to this next BlackBerry update should give assess to the mute key.

I could totally see a row of icons in a row like on bbos, camera, flashlight, alarm, useful things that doesn't need a password.

Same with newer Symbian devices, hold the lock key for a few seconds, BB10 could really do with something like this.
