Tip / Tutorial: Playing Media from Your BlackBerry Device to a SamsungBD-H5900 Blu-Ray Player(and therefore your TV/Audio System)

I keep discovering and using features on my BlackBerry 10 phones and I felt a need to make a tutorial for in case anyone else wanted to do it and/or didn't know how easy and nifty using shared media is. I'm using OS 10.3.1 so I can't say for sure if this works for earlier OSs but I believe it will.

You can Miracast to this Bluray player and it's pretty easy to do and I'm leaving that out of this tutorial and focusing on the DLNA sharing aspect.

First connect both the BD-H5900 and the BB10 device to the same Wifi network.

On your BlackBerry go to Settings-Media Sharing and select the types of media you wish to share with your Samsung. Then click the "Device" action item. There check the Samsung device at its IP address(you can double check it is by going into your Samsung's Settings and go to Network and Status.)

Next go to your Samsung's Home page and click "Change Device" and select your BlackBerry.

Then you can select one of the photos or Videos or Music catagories. The next screen goes into another Photo Video Music selection for some reason but just select the one you did on the previous screen and voila! Your media then is ready to be selected and played.

Make sure you have a speedy network for HD videos but pictures and music ought to be fine otherwise. Nice to enjoy the pictures and movies on the big screen and music through your bigger entertainment unit's speakers.

Really good write-up. Thanks for posting this. I'm sure a lot of people will find it helpful.

I've also got a Samsung bluray disk player as well, an older model. And it pretty much works the same way as you have described. The screens on the TV look a "leetle deffairent" but similar steps.

It works really well tho and it is quite a cool feature. I also use my Z30 to stream over Miracast with my Netgear PTV3000 and my WDTV media server.

I love the way BlackBerry works with devices made by other manufacturers and not tied to one "brand". And they work, quite well indeed.
