I have a very simple entertainment system in my classic car. It doesn't have the ability to make calls, do voice recognition or transfer the phone book. As a result, if I need to make a call I need to use the Blackberry Assistant - but usually can't because the screen is locked and needs the password entered.
Is there a way of setting a profile which prevents the handset locking until the bluetooth link is broken ?
I'd love that but don't think it's possible. Hopefully it is or will be on Priv.

Install slacker radio from BlackBerry world, then in the app settings set "display always on" to on. I've been doing this for years to keep my BlackBerry unlocked while driving. Just remember to keep slacker as your focused app and have your 'berry connected to power.
As a side benefit you get a great music service!

Not sure about safety. I want to be able to activate the Blackberry Assistant to do voice dialling, but usually can't because the phone has locked after a timeout. If it could detect the Bluetooth connection and prevent the lock, it would do what I want it to.

In the settings for Assistant enable "activate with mute key" and "use when locked"

There was an app I used a while ago screen timeout, or something like that. I can't remember exactly but I don't use it anymore. You can set a time for the screen not to lock.

I have that set - it doesn't seem to work for me.
Yes - I used Screen Timeout when I was still on Z10 - it worked flawlessly - you can set it to keep screen on constantly when plugged into power.

The mute key works for me when it is locked. Do you have another app programed to use the mute key?
Maybe you have to press the key longer?

I keep all my sensitive stuff (Credit Cards, Passwords, etc) in password keeper and don't even bother with locking the device, on my SE Passport. If you ever have it lost or stolen, just wipe the device on BlackBerry Protect!

Nothing else using the key. It doesn't respond no matter how long I press it - unless it isn't connected to Bluetooth (when it works exactly as it should).
Maybe you can try the app Screen Timeout. It will keep the screen from locking for a predetermined time.
I don't know what else to tell you because the mute key works for me. Sorry.

Oh well - maybe it's just a problem with my old in-car kit. I wonder if the mute key behaviour is tied in to using a specific BT profile ?
Not sure if it is tied in to a profile.

Yes - and it works when NOT connected to Bluetooth.
As an option you can also try to connect to your phone some ear plugs with the mic and answer button and press long on this button.
