You might be on to something. Wonder what the actual time frame is. Also found something interesting. Seems like all SINGLE incoming messages get an orange boarder under it and all back to back messages get a green boarder. Hmmmm.....

Funny, I don't get the green underline for back-to-back messages. I'm on Q10SQN100-3/10.2.0.1443.

If you long-press the individual message inside the bubble, the right menubar will open. Slide it open the rest of the way and on the top it will show the time-stamp for that message. This came up on another similar thread.

Thanks, did not know that. It's easier if you tab and hold the dot beside the message. That way the text selection doesn't come up.

Thanks, chaz, that's awesome. And I also don't have the green underline under my back-to-back texts. Is that maybe Q or Z specific?

    It's probably a carrier thing.

But I'd still prefer individual timestamps shown above each text.

Interesting. Now that I looked.... all incoming text messages are orange. None are green. All in coming bbm messages are blue underlined. None are orange or green.

The time stamp thing is likely to save screen space. But would be nice if we were given the option to have each message time stamped or not.

Yes, it would definitely be great to have the option to choose whether you want them or not.

I think that if they come in within a certain amount of time, it groups them in the same bubble. At least they are bulleted separately in the bubble.

Beyond a certain time, it will get its own bubble and timestamp. I get these all the time from my wife. She'll send me several separate short texts within a few minutes before I get the chance to respond. But, if it's an hour later for a subsequent message, it gets its own bubble, even if I didn't respond to the previous one.

I don't know what the time frame is before a sequential message gets its own time stamped bubble.

Perhaps the time frame is the day the text was sent..? All text messages from the same person on one and the same day will be grouped within one bubble..? I have only one back to back conversation and there I found one bubble... All other texts have a span of more than one day...

If someone who has regular back to back conversations could check this (if that one would be that eager to find out, I know I am now) by doing the "select message swipe menu" and see what's the timespan between the "big bubble" and the first in line "one message bubble"... this could even be narrowed down by others if they find smaller time spans.. I would've done it myself but I haven't used text messages for conversations ever since my first BlackBerry, which is a long long time ago...

    From the Z...

The limit for grouping messages is likely around 30 minutes. I went through my texts and found one that was ungrouped at 50 minutes apart.

Interesting. Going to try that. Have two phones so will try at 15. 20. 30. 45. Min intervals if have too.

I think the op is talking about several texts in a row. If a certain time interval passes between texts, they get a new bubble and time stamp. I don't know what that interval is. Same with BBM. It's dumb.
