I have a a Q10 and when I use it connected via HDMI to a screen I just get the square image. Is there a way (like in the playbook settings) to stretch the image to fill the screen (for video or presentations) or is this a limitation? I have searched but found nothing pertaining to this. Thanks in advance.

If you click the three dots, it will say something like "play on" and you can choose HDMI and it will play in whatever ratio the file you are playing at.

Yes I can change that setting but I cannot get it to stretch to fill the screen. It remains a square image. Maybe it's not possible to stretch it. Hopefully it'll be updated with that option.

    PS I'm runnng OS 10.1.0.4285

If you're talking about the size of the screen, I don't think you can change it since the native resolution is 720x720. Even if you were able to stretch it, I'd assume it would look distorted on the tv.

Have you tried the options from your tv?

Yes I've tried that but no luck. I think it would be a nice option for presentations and videos.

That's a ridiculously silly oversight if it can't be resized when over hdmi...

Just checking that this issue won't spoil a powerpoint show.
Background will fill the screen when projected?
    Thanks.

If I show a powerpoint presentation using my phone connected to a projector I cannot expand the screen to fill the entire space. I can make it fairly big but I cannot have it full screen. It will remain square. It doesn't spoil the show but it would be nice if they included the setting as they do in the playbook.

Look at my solution to HDMI output (with PSP emulator):

Basically, the game is shown over HDMI @ 1080p.

It is good for the ppsspp app and games but it doesn't help with the native apps like docs to go and video playback unfortunately. Or does it?

Well video playback already does this.
The only issue is doing it from the file browser (eg. Remote Files) as that doesn't seem to include this feature.

Also, Powerpoint has 'Presenter mode' and can do this as well.

Video playback doesn't do this for me. I cant get it to fill the entire screen (widescreen or full screen). I cant get presenter mode in powerpoint to do this. Would you mind sharing how?

Go into display options and you can change the format size of your output, although not choosing the automatic one makes it look ugly and stretched.

I've done all that but it doesn't expand the picture to either wide screen or full screen. It'll go to those dimensions but what I want is what I can do in the playbook settings (aspect ratio) and that's stretch the image either proportionally or zooming which unfortunatly the Q10 cannot do at present. Does this make sense?

Are you sure you're using Play To and not opening it directly and using mirror mode?

Unfortunately for me no matter what the dimensions I set that button you speak of just changes the pic aspect ratio within the confines on the squared area. Does that fill your screen on your TV? I've a 42 inch screen and I've the official HDMI BlackBerry cable but it wont for me. Will try to make a video in a sec.

Not sure. Can you explain? What I do is open docs to go or video and play a presentation or movie while connected to screen via hdmi and then change the display if needed but I get no option or can see no option to stretch/mirror etc.

I think Play On is found by tapping on the overflow button, the one with 3 dots. Like xsacha said looks like you are using mirror mode.

Perfect. So that's one sorted thanks a million to you both. Anyway to make the powerpoint stretch (or play on)?

Ok. I think I found the solution to powerpoint presentations stretching to full screen. And maybe others knew this but how and ever.

When connected to a screen via HDMI open Docs to Go and open a presentation. If you try to play the presentation from here it wont stretch to full screen on your projector or TV but if you click the edit button on the bottom (pencil like icon) you'll see this screen:
    https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D656406_77779572_895913

Then click the Presenter screen icon (second from the right) and you'll see this screen
    https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D656406_77779572_895925

Now click the lectern icon (first from the right on the bottom) and your presentation should go full screen from this:
    https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D656406_77779572_895932

    to this:

    https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D656406_77779572_895939

While in this view you can see the current slide on your phone and the next slide coming up.

Hope this helps some people. I'm all happy now

I have had the exact same issue, and this was the answer for me. Thanks Xsacha! I had falsely assumed it would be as easy as it is on the PB until this thread got me to check. You guys saved me some frustration. What I do without CB?
