Today my brand new STL100-1 got damaged. Don�t ask how. It is tragic.
But something more interesting transpired due to that.

I have read few of us (including me) cursing and saying bad things to BlackBerry for launching different models in various geographies.

Blackberry has actually done a fantastic job based on what I understood for India at least. And I think it is applicable for all the regions as well. So they have really worked with their partners - the telecom companies in every region.

India has chosen to go with 2300 TDD LTE band. There are no chips available which support this band as of today. Hence Blackberry launched non LTE model in India as even if they would have launched available LTE chips based model which happens to be FDD, most us still wouldn't have been able to use LTE here in future and would have still cursed BlackBerry; saying BlackBerry Cheated.

Unfortunately India will not have voice over this TDD version of LTE as 2300 band supports only Data. For voice Indian government will have to release 700 band; which I see will happen only after 10 or 15 years from now. It seems only China and India will be using TDD LTE. There is a debate going on about which is better TDD or FDD but as of today chips and network equipment to support TDD is very sparse like only exists in LABs.

Now I am looking for best bargain for another brand new Z10 STL100-1

hmm sounds like something myself and BerryLeaks, among others have always tried to explain.

Glad someone finally took the time to research it a bit.

Hopefully the other STL100-1 users can get a better understanding reading this as well

Very interesting read. But I wonder if it's theoretically possible to have a radio that can support both FDD and TDD frequencies. Looks to me the tech is promising. We need an Electronics Engineer.

Yeah..got a new one...previous one was beyond repair and then I opened it further to check what is inside....
