Noticed that Standby in device monitor use data for no reason(
What is it at all? And what is responsible for? Any ideas how to get rid of it?

It's what keeps you phone in Standby.... waiting for it's next thing to do, such as get a call or receive and incoming mail or notification.

You don't get rid of it...

Have you figured this out yet?
I just noticed this today. Standby used 18mb so far this month. Not much, but still, why would standby need to use data?

I understand what standby is for, and know it should be there for battery consumption. But data usage?! That kinda seems weird to me

If you really want to track this down you are going to have to audit all your applications. Standby activities would be all those not attributable to specific subsystems. I would start looking at applications that use headless triggers, but are not running a headless element.

Over the past two weeks my Standby mobile use has been 825kB but none in the past 48 hours.

What do you mean under headless triggers?

I've suggested this is because of BIS. I aplly firewall to home's WiFi network and block all BIS Ip addresses. But there is still mb used for stby.
I do not have tons of apps. I am continuously using android Viber and telegram. And only couple of other apps.
I am going to try allow Ip only for certain app and look if it have some results

There are two ways an application can be headless. One is the classic way where there are two parts, the normal UI application and part without a UI, hence the term headless. This requires permission from the user to run headless.

The second way is to register the application to capture special trigger events such as: geofencing; power on; installation of the application; that don't need special permission other than use of required facilities such as location for geofencing.

I've been trying to post a screen capture since my first reply but keep getting a "can not connect to server error".

Here it is posted from my PC. Ironic that I can't post a picture to CB using the CB app on a BlackBerry device.

Yeah, that's one more bit of functionality the CB10 app lost in the last month or two......sigh...

By the way that is screenshots of WiFi data usage over night with only Viber and telegram running. Standby and system are the most "hungry" ones(

I also noticed that Device Connection uses data... which is weird as well...

You know, it could just be all the data it uses while staying standby, which includes all apps that run in the background for example while leaving the phone locked at night. I don't think the standby itself is using data, but that this just means data usage in general while being in standby

Yeh. I also though about it.
I've connected to vpn to monitor data used. And it shows pretty much the same as standby. So maybe you are right.
I think we should consider so)
