Built for Business - Learn more about BlackBerry KEY2

Just saw an update from Micheal Clewley on his BBM channel. Coming built-in in 10.2 will be the ability to silence the camera shutter sound when putting the phone on silent mode. (will post screen cap soon)

Great to see that BB is taking feedback from these forums. Thanx Micheal!

It should be left on for those who cried pervert.

We should go back thru the forums and call out all those who tried to defend the camera noise, and see what they say now

Then those people will just have to probably scroll down a Terms And Conditions message that tells them to only use where legal, press OK, then continue taking pictures in silence

I'll still stand by my word I don't care if sound is there or not, however it is law to have shutter sounds in certain places. The only sound that annoyed me was the screenshot sound

I still want a little police siren as the shutter noise. Especially during a screenshot.

At least BlackBerry is listening! Bravo! :-)

And there are no legal issues with this unless you're in Korea!

Now if they can get OPENVPN on here I can rest a happy bunny!

Hey. I was wrong. I could have sworn I read I'm the paper or something that it was a law or one they were trying to pass here.
I've got nothing against having no camera sound I just thought that was the case.
    People make mistakes.

There was a lot of misinformation regarding mandatory shutter sounds going around, some of it generated by Michael Clewley in one of his twitter posts and some by people googling the question and turning up a U.S. Bill introdced by Rep. Peter King around 2009 and assuming it became law, which it never did.

I am still a little annoyed that I have to put the whole phone in silent mode to eliminate the shutter sound (even more pissed that this still seems to be the case for stopping keypad beeps in the phone function. Is having the keypad beep a law somewhere to prevent pervs from making heavy breathing phone calls? )

It is odd, how much misinformation there is, regarding something so basic as a shutter sound being muted.

That said, my iphone 5 has a mute switch - silences everything. At least BlackBerry is following suit, even if it is the most basic implementation. I have to applaud them this: it has taken long enough to get here!

In Canada the RCMP had (or have, it's probably still there) on their website an section about keeping kids safe from preds taking pictures with camera phones. It said that some phone companies, may have mentioned BlackBerry by name but I can't remember, have worked with the police to help with this problem by not having silent shutter sounds on the camera.

I suppose with the plethora of silent shutter apps out there BlackBerry has decided to step away from this.

This will be so nice. Not sure why some folks are so focused on pervs? Video mode doesn't have an old reel to reel projector sound.
I hate trying to take a pic of my cat or an animal in nature and as soon as the stupid shutter sound goes they get spooked or annoyed.

This is probably quite controllable. In corporations, it can probably be disabled by the BES. In the consumer market, they can probably disable it on the phones they sell in markets with the legal issues.

I once had a guy proudly tell me about the shots he took of women's cleavage with his silent camera. That taints my view on the subject but I definitely get the legitimate reasons for wanting the sound off, especially with sleeping babies or the nature example.
