I just read on another site that Skype has been moved from BlackBerry World to Amazon App store. Does anyone know why this has happened. The link http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/emu/2477 will show you the following screen

I would guess that it is consolidation of effort. They don't need to maintain the bbw version to cover BB10.

It's because BlackBerry has decided to move all apps created using their app port thingy to the Amazon Appstore. This was covered on the CB news page yesterday.

Good for devs, they get a wider audience with no additional effort. Good for users, bbw for native apps and Amazon for android.

Not the same app version though. The BBWorld version has always been behind a lot, recently had some annoying bugs introduced, and the latest update on Amazon actually listed BlackBerry optimisations as part of the release notes.
Seems like a harmless/positive move to me.

Skype on BlackBerry World was an Android port, so moving it to Amazon changes nothing other than maybe it will be updated more often.

Anyone know what other "app generator" apps there are besides Skype that will be making the move?

Uhm... what is everyone on about? Skype wasn't made using the Mipin App Generator? It was just a simple port of the Android app with some tweaks, why on earth would a major product like Skype use third party dev software for that?

Moving it to an Android App Store which has a bigger support team behind it, means we'll get more frequent updates and a better app experience. The BBWorld version didn't do anything special, so it was a pointless addition.
So the move makes sense from any perspective, especially if they keep linking from BBWorld to Amazon with this explanation.

But it has nothing to do with the moving of ****ty Generator Apps, those refer to the Info for, News for, Help for crap apps that we've been complaining about for years, or apps that were basically just a webview in a wrapper. Good riddance!

There is no guarantee that Amazon store versions will not ask for google play. I guess Android player will be gone eventually.

By the very fact it's on the Amazon app store it won't have Google play.

You'd think that, but you would be wrong, there is even a thread on here about Apps on Amazon which ask for Play Services.

This is not a wide spread issue. Couple apps from a couple lazy developers. The whole point of the Amazon app store is to offer apps that work on the forked Android OS Amazon does.

All the "big" apps I use are updated frequently. Might not be exactly 1:1 with G.Play, but all of them run stable and reliable.

All apps from small developers I try to reach out to them personally and they often oblige with an update. Often they just don't realise their app is still being used through Amazon, so they don't proactively update them.
