Can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. VPN is connected. Developer mode is on with a simple password. Client shows the list of files on the server and seems to download a file, but sticks at "Installing the app. Please wait a little..."

I've checked the HowTo and the FAQ and can't see a solution - any ideas?

I have had a little more serious problem.

While I was trying to sideload Snap-latest.bar to my Passport this morning, Google sent emergency alerts to me - login attempts (with my Google account) at 162.248.140.172 (sideload.it) were blocked. Having interrupted sideloading, I rebooted my Passport and then tried sideloading Snap-latest.bar to my Passport . . . Google sent emergency alerts again.

I wonder if somebody has implemented a trap at 162.248.140.172 (sideload.it).

Get back to me via PM with more details. It is definitely not my fault, but I want to double check with you. I am the only person now that has access to core files on the server, so traps are impossible.

forgive me for not fully understanding what your saying could be a security problem...

but how is it possible that any server can log in with your google credentials unless you give them? sideload.it does not ask for your google credentials so how could that ever happen?

I know the snap app itself does ask you for them but if your using two factor and using a specific one-time app password I'm not sure how they could be reused by snap. As far as I know snap is secure and since you don't give your google login credentials to sideload how could they be used against u?

Because you were essentially checking email from the sideload.it VPN. The VPN is configured for your Internet to run through it, not just as an additional network to connect to. If you connect to sideload.it and visit What Is My IP - The IP Address Experts Since 1999, you'll see that IP. Disconnect, and you'll get your mobile provider or wifi connection's public IP.

Same thing happens when I connect to CyberGhost VPN and google services running in the background suddenly detect a login in a different country/state and trips their alarms. You can click the link "Is this you?" next time you login. It might prevent future ones.

I do not know how to configure firewall and strongswan to connect as a peer (so they are on same subnet, directly accessible without firewall or NAT issues) but not redirect the Internet connection. But that is how it should be set up, if possible.

^^ What he said. In other words, Google noticed you were trying to access your account from a location other than the usual one, hence the alert.

Thank you very much for having kindly explained what happened to my passport this morning . . . I have forgotten that Sideload.it is designed for us to gain access to .bar files available on the Internet (located outside 192.168.79.xxx) in addition to .bar files stored on the Sideload.it server.

I have been extensively using a VPN client software ( TheGreenBow VPN Client - Enterprise Security Software ) with Juniper routers at my apartment and at my brother's apartment with such routing table as quoted below. In this example Internet traffic (including IMAP access to gmail.com) will never channeled through 192.168.77.xxx (the local network address on the other side of VPN connection).

    Code:
    C:\> route print

Right, now that's all sorted, can we try to solve the other problem please ? The one that several of us are having where the app. stalls at "Installing the app. Please wait a little..." in spite of the VPN being connected, the app. appearing to detect the VPN IP address, the app. clearly being able to retrieve a list of files from the server, dev mode being active and a simple dev mode password being in use ?

    Please ?

Guys, I don't even know what to say. The only app I can try on my Playbook is SimpleBrowser.bar and it installs just fine. Other ones say they are for a different system.
Unfortunately, I don't have a BB10 device to tell if apps are installed to it. Yet, I don't believe they will fail to install as soon as I get normal results on my PB.

BIG thanks to Rebellious for spending over an hour on this with me tonight. The method works, but there seems to be a problem with the VPN and some networks. For some reason, the .bar is not being delivered to/accepted by the target device on these networks.

At this stage, there's no clear indication of what the problem is, but at least the scope is a little clearer now.

Is your VPN IP being correctly detected on the settings page? If its not 192.168.79.x, that is the issue.

If you do not have correct VPN IP, it will still connect to sideload.it through the public IP, which is why I suspect it starts but never finishes.

Try putting in the 192.168.79.1 IP instead of sideload.it for the server address.

On October 4 I installed OS 10.3.1.634 on Z30. On the same day I installed sideloadit.apk and then successfully installed Snap-2_0_0_2.bar with Sideload.it.

Since then I have non-destrucctively updated the device software of Z30 to OS 10.3.1.1016 with Sachesi and Sideload.it no longer installs .bar files while prompting "Installing the app. Please wait a little..." forever.

I wonder what has changed during the past month.

    P.S.

Sideload.it was working on Passport running OS 10.3.0.1418. It is not working on the same Passport running OS 10.3.1.1016.

Z10 stl2 here with 10.3.1.652 (software release). I did all right but it hangs on installing the app. Successful connection to vpn (it's green), rechecked all settings, ip adress, development mode etc, tried both wifi and mobile net, but no luck installing.
I did notice that even if you don't connect to vpn you will get that message.
    Any thoughts?

Everything was correctly configured and my passport was visible at the server, there's just something weird that prevents the .bar being pushed and installed correctly. We did a test with another VPN server and it all worked. (Rebellious was monitoring and attempting to push a .bar to my device at times).

Rebellious isn't aware of any differences between the public VPN server and the test server.

The issue, as it stands, is not about the OS. Maybe server-side. Let's wait for update from Rebellious.

By the way, if you have an installation of CentOS 6.3 or newer, you can have your own bar installation feature, just like Sideload.it. The procedure is explained here Want the same? | Sideload.it
