I've had my Classic since July this year, and the battery has been bad since day 1. So, I decided to do a security wipe to see if that would help. Well, I backed up in Link and then started the wipe last Sunday. And to cut a long (and boring) story short, it finished overnight Friday night/Saturday morning.

During the course of the 6 days I re-started the device twice, and the device auto re-started the security wipe.

The security wipe sat on 99% completed for 60 + hours before it finally finished.

    What on earth goes on!

That happened to my Z10 when I security wiped it. It was stuck on 99% for 3 days and then finally did it. To be honest I have no clue why. Lol!

I'm very pleased that there is a % indicator as to how it proceeds, but my golly it becomes a frustrating and potentially expensive experience when you don't know if you've got to call in a bb certified software engineer to help you out.

No it shouldn't. I usually delete all email accounts, all non-blackberry 10 apps and turn off blackberry protect before I wipe and it ends up being done in less than 15 minutes

    Thanks for those tips Gadgetgirl

And yes, i did turn off bb protect, but I didn't do the other stuff. Not sure I'd ever try to do a security wipe again.

Factory reset, or just straight auto loader for me if needs be in future I think.

A factory reset includes a security wipe. I don't recommend doing a security wipe manually unless you are going to transfer the device to another user. Then I always recommend deleting as much as you can first. That significantly reduces the time the wipe takes.
