There are three buttons on the z10, just like every BlackBerry before Them.

    Volume up
    Volume down
    Play/pause

BlackBerry could use them more effectively, but they are there.

Both the volume up and volume down work to snap a pic.

I like rapping the screen because I can do that without shaking the camera as much as when I press the volume rockers in

I have to say NO CAMERA BUTTON pleeeaaaseee, buttons are on every single os out there. What's the point of having same os on every phone? Most important thing is that the button used is really really really UGLY

BlackBerry in my mind is about flexibility, uniqueness and control. It is this freedom that makes a BlackBerry a BlackBerry! Programmable convenience keys! Attaching music to messages and sending to a friend! Forwarding a text message to an email or an email to a text message! Some of this flexibility is gone. Do not take away the flexible, unique and power of the screen touch shutter on the camera. In fact bring back those other great BlackBerry concepts and free the world!!!

I just read there appears to be a camera button being introduced in 10.3

Hopefully not. It's this sort of distinction that makes BlackBerry great!

Years past there were campaigns by jeep owners stating "real jeeps have round headlights". Today's jeep has round headlights (they became square for a short time).

Similarly today's campaign should read "real phones do not need dedicated buttons".

Please do not dumb down our BlackBerry phones. It's this smartness and distinction we desire.

The camera app has advanced to be able to have an option at the same screen to snap a picture or start a video. Touch anywhere on the screen to focus on that area. I'm Using it. It's really great. Not that tough. Doesn't take a genius. You can do it.How hard is it for you personally to press the volume buttons to snap a picture? Your still cameras also have a dedicated button. Do you want to change it too!? "Oh lets touch the Canon Camera anywhere to take a picture! It's too hard to touch the button!!!"...sorry you have a "dumb" Nikon...or Canon...

The canons and nikons have a strap to keep things from falling. I spend consider effort trying not to fumble my Z30. Pushing buttons on the side will not be easier - this said I have not tried it. Maybe BlackBerry needs to make a 'rubber' like phone so when I drop it it has half a chance to survive!

You could always set the focus location. You just had to drag the square to the new location Esther then tap the new location.

Yea but by that time the shot is lost...unless you're taking a picture of a statue...

You are correct. Bring on the cheese with my 'wine'. The blue button in camera mode on my PassPort works great. Painless making the adjustment. Sober second thoughts - sold!

BlackBerry conducted user feedback polls before making this change. Based on the questions many people didn't know that you could tap anywhere on the screen to take a picture.

While there are many ways to trigger for camera on a smart phone, the best way to release a "shutter" is with a double action button with tactile feed back. Depressing part way sets and locks the focus. All the way takes the picture.

All updates to BB10 OS are copying UI and features of recent iOS and Android. 10.3.x looks like just another Android skin mixed with some iOS buttons. Is this the best BlackBerry has to offer?

Guessing it's a matter of time before all platforms look the same? The keyboard and wide screen on this unit I'm holding continues to keep coming back to BlackBerry. The solid feel - like those old HP calculators - make BlackBerry phones distinctive - if the keyboard is not your stuff!

Having gone back to camera on 10.2.1 on my used z10 replacement phone, I like the flexibility of touching screen anywhere to focus and shoot the shot as opposed to the fixed button of 10.3.1

I also like better tap screen anywhere to take picture. It's much more convenient for single hand operation.
