So your BBID and password will now be stored in the phone memory in order for it to survive the security wipe?

Purposely wiping my q10 with wrong password 10 times to see exactly what this news means.

It appears they're saving it into NVRAM, which means it survives a security wipe, yes.

IMHO this is a very good thing as it makes these phones worthless if stolen.

    What happened?

I had switched off BlackBerry Protect yesterday, was planning to autoload my phone this weekend.

So far, nothing really new. As long as I don't need any BlackBerry services, I have a working cell without logging into my BB I'd. I am trying a second wipe with protect verified turned on. ( only 90% sure it was on with first wipe)

    Shall see.

OK second wipe. I am able to make calls, browse web. Basically use the phone for everything but BlackBerry services. Not sure what the change is here. Maybe I am missing something.

Now they just need to go completely crazy, and add back the backup/restore feature.

I don't get it either bbw. I expected something along the lines of having to input my bbid before, or mandatory during setup.

Does an autoloader rewrite the NVRAM? And hence render this security measure obsolete?

Or is it in a non accessible place but autoloader and such?

And if so doesn't that make it accessible for hacking? The old system made all our info volatile, while the phone can be reused the information is permanently deleted, this system keeps my bbid and password somewhere on the phone and hence feels like it can be extracted somehow!

Does that make any sense to you guys?!?

This is feature is only available for beta testers and not because you have 10.3.2 running on your device.

That was going to be my next suggestion. That a beta tester try it out. I was just going by the post that said " it was server side and will affect all on 10.3.2. No matter how it was loaded"

My last test was lock and wipe via protect and still the exact same.

It is indeed for beta testers only. A beta tester on 10.3.2 I know just tried to wipe and he was prompted to enter his blackberry ID.
