In my experience, all major OTA updates on any platform are 1. Delayed forever and 2. When they finally arrive they break the device that was working perfectly well before. I'm sure they do it on purpose to force your hand into buying the latest model.

I don't care how green the grass looks in the 10.3 field. I am staying right here on 10.2.1 where everything works just the way I like it.

I've been hearing early to mid - April now. This is easily the most botched OS update in mobile history.

In what respect? Chen said February months ago and we still have 3 weeks left.

I would rather they push it out mid to late month and fix issues rather than to rush it out the door to hit some arbitrary deadline.

Well don't forget "early" February and do you think they will fix anything by waiting more? It's been more than a year and every time they delay, people come out and say what you said, until when? They had a whole year and they still have issues, do you think they will fix everything in 3 weeks?

    From Dec 17 Classic launch:
"At todays post-Classic event Q&A, BlackBerry confirmed 10.3.1 will be available for in-market devices in February of 2015. Chen was asked directly about current devices and this 10.3.1 update directly. He stated*there was no specific schedule for each device, and yielded the question to BlackBerry President of Devices, Ron Louks, who then explicitly said, February."

Although I'm sure there will always be bugs, it seems that 2267 has ironed out most of the OTA update issues (at least by the feedback in the beta program).

Classic shipped with 10.3.1.1154. Now a handful of carriers are offering an update to 10.3.1.2072. That's it.

What do you mean by "all kinda updates"?

Honestly. I don't think I would qualify a few tweets from BlackBerry support as official corporate policy. I think I would let the statement from Chen and his devices President quoted above speak for itself.

Besides, this is all academic anyway. By the time the carriers are done with it, it may be weeks or months before some people see the update. Just ask Samsung about that too!

Like I said, I don't think "Chuck" over at the help desk sets official corporate policy. I don't count that as a "company promise". I wouldn't hang my hat on that. I'll stick with the statement made by the BlackBerry Device President.

Well BlackBerry hired "Chuck" and when someone BlackBerry hired starts giving time frames then he is talking by BlackBerry's name not his, so I don't really care if it's "Chuck" or "Chen" I just know that it's coming from BlackBerry.

I just wonder when will you start waking up to reality and admit that BlackBerry has missed two deadlines?

I would not qualify any previous dates as deadlines. They barely qualify as estimates or hopeful targets in my mind.

But on March 1st, if the update is not available on BlackBerry's servers, I will agree that they are late - "officially". But as I said before, it really doesn't matter, as the carriers will truly dictate the release date.

Don't forget it was "later this year" first, so they are already late. And not giving 10.3.1 to everyone at the same time when Classic launched was a huge mistake on their part IMHO. I'm BlackBerry customer since April 2014 when I got my Z10 and they managed to lose my trust as a customer quite fast. :/

80% of the carriers around the world don't test anything anyways, they just give BlackBerry a green light and BlackBerry does its part ( or doesn't)

I simply don't agree that the "before the end of the year" was an official corporate promise. A reasonable estimate maybe. But...

10.3.1 was not ready until right now. BlackBerry had update issues coming from 10.2.1, which of course is not relevant for the Classic. 2072 and 2267 are the first releases that seemed to have overcome the issues they were having.

But anyways, their official blog post said "BlackBerry 10.3.1 will also be available to all current BlackBerry 10 smartphones as an OS update later this year."

This is a company promise, sorry.

Holy smokes. That was a developer blog post from May! I'm sorry, that is not a firm corporate commitment to its end users in my books. They were communicating to developers about getting their apps ready, and gave them a time frame to get them going. I guess we too will have to agree to disagree.

The thing that makes it so awful is the fact they gave us a time frame which IMHO meant October - December and up until December they didn't say another word about 10.3.1 for the older devices. This is not how you communicate with paying customers.

Like I said in the other thread, if GM tells its suppliers they need parts for a car they will sell "later this year", that hardly qualifies as a commitment to the general public as to when said vehicle will actually be available to purchase.
