So I'm often a bit fat-fingeredand often rely on autocorrect, but when I type things that don't apply, like passwords, it's not uncommon that I have to try more than once. Right now my BlackBerry says that I have entered 8 incorrect passwords (cumulatively, to access the device from lock), and that if I get to 10 it will wipe the device. Obviously I know my password and obviously I don't want that to happen. So is there a way I can knock that number back down to zero just to be on the safe side?

Once you've entered it correctly and unlocked the phone, the counter resets to 0.

You could login to Protect online and change your password there.

Not sure if that will reset the number of attempts though.

Negative. Just happened again. Did not reset to zero.

What's weird though is that this time the counter dropped from 8 to 5. What's weirder still is that I definitely entered the RIGHT password multiple times and couldn't gain access; it didn't tell me it was wrong, it just didn't do anything, and the counter just stayed at 5. So then I intentionally entered a BAD password, at which point it jumped up to 6. Re-entered the correct password, bingo bango, in like Flynn.

**** it, I'mma just turn it off. It's just my personal device. What am I afraid of someone getting ahold of, my extensive 70's Swedish pop collection? (Srsly tho, it's a pretty choice playlist.)

I actually had that on, and it worked great. The trouble is that I would get the master password prompt if the phone sat idle for too long. I don't know what the threshold is to make it do that or if there is a way to disable it full stop.

Past your 5th attempt it should SHOW your password so you can see if you've mistyped.

It should actually be prompting you to enter BlackBerry not your device password after the 5th wrong attempt.

Entered the wrong password 9 times, and then the right one at the last try.

Locked the phone and the counter reset to zero.

Something strange going on. As noted, you should be able to see the password you are typing in after 5 wrong entries. And once you get it right, counter should reset to zero.

I was able to see the password as I typed it.

It did prompt me to enter "blackberry" but when I did, it said it was incorrect.

Nope. As I said, when I entered it AFTER entering a wrong password, It worked.

When you're entering your password, click on the eye icon on the right side and it will show you what you're typing. This way, you can verify what you typed before pressing OK.

But I think the bigger point is getting lost here. I'm far less interested in correcting my fatfingers than I am in figuring out why the incorrect-attempt-counter isn't (rather, WASNT, as I've since turned it off) resetting to ZERO upon entry of the correct password.

It could be a bug in the picture Password. The device could have been expecting a correct Picture Password entry only and your correct password was seen as incorrect. Something very similar happened to me when trying to login from Sachesi while the phone was locked and picture password was enabled. It happened more than once and was easily reproduced. The solution was to always unlock the device before attempting to login using Sachesi.

Never had the opportunity, only had the phone about a month now, updated to 10.3.2 out of the box.
