I have sold my Z10, not before I've backed it up with blackberry link. I have the .bbb backup file on my computer. Now I need to extract a couple of contacts from the backup file....
Please help me get to them.

Unfortunately, you cannot extract those contacts. The BlackBerry backup file can only be restored to a BB 10 device. This is by design.
If you have no BB10 device available to you, I'd suggest checking your email for messages from those contacts, and pulling the info from there.
This is why many mobile users sync their contacts (and calendars) with cloud services such as Outlook.com or Gmail.

Sorry I can't give you the answer you were hoping for.

The problem is likely due to the Z10 backup having been created from the Z10 on a higher OS version than the Q10 to which you're trying to restore. We have a couple of things to try.

First, have you checked that your Q10 is updated to the latest available version? (We'll leave leaked versions as a last resort.) What version is it. Settings > About > OS Version.
Do you remember what OS version your Z10 was running? If not the exact version -- was it 10.1, a leaked 10.2?

It may be possible right now to download & install Sachesi: http://forums.crackberry.com/bb10-le...taller-825409/ . This is a simple but effective program that, among other things, backs up and restores in the same .bbb format as BB Link. It's much more efficient and forgiving. I've used it to restore Link backups that Link couldn't restore. It's also much quicker.

If that still doesn't work, we can look at using Darcy's Tools (http://forums.crackberry.com/bb10-le...-tools-824364/) to look at modifying the OS version number embedded in your Z10 backup to a lower version, so it can be restored. This is a little more complicated, so I'd like to see you try Sachesi first.

So, let me know about the version numbers, and possibly give Sachesi a try.

Last note. I'd suggest doing a backup of your Q10 before proceeding with anything - just in case.

OK, first of all thanks for your help.
The Z10 was running 10.2.0.1521 leak.
My Q10 is running 10.2.0.1725 leak.
I will try the sachesi and post here the results.

*** Just a reminder -- if you restore your Z10 backup to the Q10, you will be overwriting the data.

My Q10 is running 10.2.0.1725 leak.

Hi elissar, you're right, my Q10 is already in use for a while and I wouldn't want to overwrite it's content. Hmmm, looks like I'm in a deadlock here..zzzzz
