BlackBerry just nailed the top 3 most used phone in S.A, and in other parts of the world like Indonesia, etc... cheaper curve models are still loved, but BIS seems to be a burden still, with data bundles becoming cheaper and android versions ewven cheaper I believe heavy migration will start from BIS+curve to data bundle+droid.

    Solutions:

    1. Q3 smaller screen and modeled after classic with same Q5 specs, should cover migration from curve.

    2. Maybe reduced BIS prices, (in beirut a bbm social package was introduced it sold like crazy, gave you 1 email account and bbm and the rest over wifi and went for 5 usd/month) and a BlackBerry social package (1 email, facebook twitter and bbm for 8usd/month)this boosted bbm usage and allowed people with less budgets to use curve and be conencted. I beilive these packages where not available everywhere maybe unleash them to all keep legacy a little bit further and ensure a smooth transition to Q3 and maybe higher end devices in time.

3.dunno if it is possible to introduce BIS similar packages to bb10 (like BlackBerry social and BBM bundles) I don't know if bb10 can connect to the BlackBerry NOC and use compressed data so data cost can be driven down, but smthg I think they should investigate. Some countries data is still expensive and cheaper packages help the sale of devices.

Thoughts, ideas, criticism, shoot away plz!

Not a bad idea if they can make it really cheap. I think they are really trying for the Z3 to be that device though since with data plans people are going to be enjoying media and that is best enjoyed on a big screen. But, I don't dislike the idea of a really cheap Q3. A low end device meant for emerging markets. It could also be offered, along with Z3, to enterprise for business where device cost can be a huge factor.

In my many posts here, I am also saying the same, that people love BlackBerry hardware keypad and Os7, why not bring the Bis plan's down, and even introduce some new ph in that.

They explain me abt Z3 which will never be loved as curves are till now.

But people here bash me badly for writing all this.
They are only looking forward for Passport and classic.

Another all touch high end first! (the Z3 is not an upgrade from my Z30 it's a downgrade).

If there isn't one out by February or at least announced by then, I'll be going Android, which I really don't want to have to do

Agreed, I was using my Curve until last summer and loving it. Time for the BB10 version of Curve, the Q3.

Z3 can't fill that role since it's an all-touch device.

Incidentally, BlackBerry were planning to release a Q3 and Z5 (better known as Kopi and Cafe) at the end of 2013. Never came out, obviously.

Well technically the Q3 is the Q5 to some extent.

Q5 has a downclocked Q10 processor, 2 GB of RAM and LTE. Q3 would have had the Z3 processor, 1.5GB of RAM and no LTE. Was supposed to be cheaper, but price cuts, the existence of the Q5 and finally the Foxconn deal killed it.

I'm referring more to emerging markets. Different target.

Well the parts are even cheaper now. There is a market for a classic formed cheap BlackBerry. Dunno it's my opinion only but I believe it can be leveraged with a less than 200 usd device.

I believe it can be made cheaper than the z3 smaller lcd screen with lower ppi. And the internals should be even cheaper due to time difference.

But I didn't hear any comments on hooking up bb10 with specialised BIS plans, like BlackBerry social, or BBM plan.

    No thoughts?
