    Hello,

I'm planning to switch to BlackBerry 10 but I heard that the push email, espacially for Gmail, is not as effective as it was on legacy devices. I wonder if true push mail will return with BlackBerry Classic?

Gmail on bb10 works via Imap. As bb10 supports imap idle, you'll get all your mails instantly. Don't worry.

Is IMAP pushing realtime or syncing every 15 minutes etc? And will it drain battery? If so I will probably keep my legacy device for email.

I only have one email account and I use Gmail. The push email is instant - right when a file is sent I get the notification. Once in a blue moon I will get a delay of maybe 10-15 minutes, not sure why but that happens rarely.

I don't think the battery drainage is too high but that could be just because my battery life sucks overall (Z10).

Thanks for your answers. Still not sure about upgrading to BB10 though. Seems like I will stick with my BBOS device until the arrival of BlackBerry Classic.

There is absolutely zero issues using Gmail and having emails pushed instantly to the handset via IMAP idle.

If you think waiting for the Q20 BlackBerry classic will change that, then you're sadly mistaken as the BlackBerry classic will just be a Bold type phone with BB10 on top (or a Q10 type phone with the classic hardware buttons on the ribbon, whichever way you want to look at it).

You should just take the plunge, Gmail push via IMAP idle works flawlessly.

Okay guys, I'm convinced but gonna wait for BlackBerry Classic to arrive for tool belt. I hope the form factor of the device will resemble Bold's form factor.

Initially (May 2013) it was laggy. Over the course of the year it has become much more dependable. Most of the time when I am copied an email standing next to someone on a legacy device on the same list we receive it simultaneously. As mentioned above "once in a blue moon" there is still a delay.

There should be a next generation of BlackBerry Internet Service, it's just irreplaceable to me. Not just emails but data compression etc. But BlackBerry should not require all users to use it. Someone who need true push and data compression will go with the special plan. Maybe a light version BES can replace it?
