It's not just NANP. In the UK, phone numbers are often written as +44 (0) 207...... or locally (0) 207......
This is sloppy work.

I can share your pain. In the end, I sold my Z10. Bought Q10 and thought it will be better but sigh BB10 is really an unfinished product. Been a BB user and with BB7 all the basic call functions are there. I can even use Blacada to add prefix easily. Those who travel extensively will appreciate the ease of calling in other countries using various prefix "0050", "019" etc. This is very basic and all other phone OSes have no problem to edit dialpad or having an application to add prefix easily. BB10 has forgotten what they have learned from the years of basic in BB7. I am hanging on to Bold 9900 after selling both Z10 and Q10. Just given up on BB since 10.1 and all the leaks of 10.2 did not show any sign of basic function improvement. Now hoping BBM is available for Android or IOS and that's it.

Use the main search, paste the number in the search field, tap beginning of number, ring and keyboard show up at same time. Notice option to call.

Just don't understand that one needs to spend a great deal of money to buy a so-called modern technology but relying on workaround for basic function!
Anyway it is a "nice" workaround. Or you could use flow dialer application or whatever.Just not the way it should be. For a business user when you need to make lots of calls and traveling a lot. This is not an elegant solution. Don't even try Blacada for BB10 it will not work!
Nope. Not a solution. As soon as the BlackBerry sees the "-", it no longer recognizes it as a phone number, and the dial option goes away:

So, one must delete the "-" to get the call option:

And THEN add the "+1".
How pathetic BlackBerry is. Absolutely pathtic.

I will add: clearly BB knows that "-" should/can appear in phone numbers, because when I remove the "-" to get the dial option, the dial option ADDS THEM BACK in the suggested phone number.
It is laughable how poorly this platform was programmed.
I learned a long time ago while working at RIM that it's a good idea to eliminate extra characters in numbers in my address book. Guess this is why I am not having this issue.

LOL, unfortunately the rest of the world did not work at RIM and uses things like -'s in their phone numbers.
Sounds like you should be using a different platform.
Is this fixed in 10.2 ? This is a huge flaw.
It's the same as before. Not a huge flaw for me.

Well, at least it`s not very business-oriented.
Can't you click the number and it will ask you if you want to call?
(number at random)
I.e..

Yes you can click numbers...but you can't edit this number before you want to call it(only with a weird work arround). That's just frustrating.

Editing is necessary in many cases.

One basic feature which Blackberry still missed with its touch device is that while you're in dial pad and you dial a number which is not in your contact list and if you want to add any number before or in between the keyed number you can't place the cursor anywhere. Please fix in the next leak.
Simple and rarely used but priority is high.
