I have problems being on a phone call, and needing to access my phone, but the phone is completely unresponsive and in black screen. I have changed the setting where you can stop the backlight from dimming when holding the phone, but sometimes I like to put my phone down and use speakerphone.

Where is/ is there a setting to keep screen active during call?

Test your proximity sensor using BBVE.

Try a quick reboot. Usually solves most issues

Thanks, it seems to be due to my having the screen timeout set low, and swipe to unlock turned off.

Pressing the power button unlocks the phone, but it is unnerving to try that when on an important call.

Usually when you pull the phone away from your ear, it should automatically light up. Maybe your proximity sensor is damaged. But i would do a reboot just to make sure. It usually solves most issues
