    I wonder:

    If you happen to buy, say, an unlocked Z30 directly from BlackBerry online - would they send out OS updates directly, or would you still be on our own?...

    Updates are carrier dependent. You should get them from the carrier you use. Or install a leak as most carriers are way behind the best OS options.
