    OS vs Software version?-img_20170408_195459.png
Upgraded to 10.3.3.1463 today, and noticed both on BlackBerry Link and on my phone info, it says
    "Software Release: 10.3.3.1463
    OS Version: 10.3.3.2205"

What's the difference, and why the two different listings?

OS version: the actual OS. What matters.
Software version: in theory, a particular combination of OS, radio and apps. Never used in practice, though.

So, "update to 10.3.3.1463" actually wasn't to 10.3.3.1463? I don't remember there being differing versions listed before.

Except by every carrier, and their CSRs, and anyone who only looks at the first "About" page.

    10.3.3.1463 means OS 10.3.3.2205 plus radio 10.3.3.2206.

    It's the same thing.

On this forum, we typically go by the OS version. The carrier and the notification from BlackBerry list the Software Release version.

They both refer to the same set of files needed to load the OS.

Back in the legacy BBOS days, we had three sets of numbers for each OS build. The Package number that the carriers went by, the OS that we went by, and the Platform version that no one went by.

As to the numbers you see in "About", drop down the category list at the top and switch to "OS". There you'll see all the various numbers Thurask is telling you about.

Gotcha. So .2205 and .1463 are essentially synonymous.

    BlackBerry Curve (2010), BlackBerry Torch (2011-2013), Android junk (2013-2014), BlackBerry Z10 (2014-present)

Wait why wouldn't they all just use the same number?this sounds confusing and unnecessary.

Absolutely unnecessary, but that's what BlackBerry chose to do years ago.

No reason they couldn't leave all those sets of numbers internal to them and only publicly show us the OS number only or the SR number only. But that's not what they chose.

"Why would they do it like that?" is the mantra of BlackBerry.
