Where to begin, long time OS7 and older BB user, waiting for new BB Classic to come out so i can upgrade.

I consider myself an advanced user when it comes to my 9900 with regards to loading hybrid and latest os, shrinking, loading etc.

With the new BB 10 devices it is a different world. I have taken the time to read all the stickies at the top of this forum and I have a few questions.

    1. Is BB Link the tool to use for backups/restore instead of Desktop Manager?

    2. I realize there are multiple tools like Darcy, CFP, Sachesi for loading new OS. Is there a shrink tool which can also be used with these OS to shrink down unwanted additions?

    3. Loading an OS using autoloader this reminds me very much of downloading latest OS and running Loader.exe, is this basically a simple manual upload of the latest OS.

    4. Is the easiest way to upgrade to the latest released OS as simple as connecting your BB with BB Link running?

Any other tips or guidance for OS 7 users upgrading to 10 would be appreciated. My plan is to get the new device and upgrade to latest OS first than start getting familiar with the device before i dabble into the more advanced loading options. From what I have read there are very little similarities and I'm sure others upgrading from 9900 will be in the same boat.

    Thanks

    1. Yes
    2. Yes but these are really only used for leaked OS (for the most part) see http://forums.crackberry.com/showthread.php?t=987089
    3. Autoloader is similar to loader.exe but again really only used for leaked OS (for the most part)
    4. Easiest is OTA update over WiFi from the device itself. (for official software). It's not the same OTA as bbos

Thank you very much, your post is very helpful.

    2. I looked at the link and it appears to be a very useful tool for what it can do, with the exception of not being able to remove apps.

    4. OTA update over Wifi is surely about as easy as it gets. But I was curious if you connect to BB Link will it also upgrade to latest official OS? Does BB Link automatically look for latest OS and notifies users assuming that option is checked? With regards to Wifi update is there a way to request to be notified when a new OS is available or do end users need to periodically check?

    Thanks

Note that an autoloader will wipe the device, so it's not an online upgrade. If you want to keep data and settings you have to backup first, run autoloader, login to your bbid on device then do restore

Yes BlackBerry link will check for official versions for you based on whatever SIM is installed

Sachesi is the most popular and recommended tool for installing leak update bar files. Can also load and remove apps
