Hmm... I was using .1016 and curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to try .1010. It apparently installed okay, but when I tried to restore with Link, it failed. After that failure, the PC no longer recognizes the Passport when connected. I tried downloading the Blend software, which also installs drivers, and it says all the drivers are up to date, but no luck.

The Passport itself detects that it's connected to the PC and gives me the "install drivers" option, but that doesn't appear to do anything. Any ideas? I'm mainly interested in recovering my Word Subs. Everything else is secondary to that.
Quoting myself to update, in case anyone else has a similar experience.

In going from .1016 to .1010, I was unable to restore a lot of stuff, including my Word Sub entries. And, as described above, something broke in the BB drivers on the PC -- maybe a coincidence. Anyway, I had to uninstall everything on the PC and reinstall, to get the Passport talking to the computer again. Still no luck with the restore, so I went back to .1016 and restored my data to that, without any problem. I wasn't having any serious trouble with .1016 anyway, and I'm confident we'll have a better 10.3.1 before too many more weeks anyway. I suspect they're burning the midnight oil working on this at BlackBerry.

Moral of the story: If you try to restore settings and data from .1016 to .1010, you may not succeed.

It's been there before that you can't restore data backed up from higher OS to lower OS.

Unless your backup was from 1010 or lower than that you should be able to restore it to 1010. Or you can try to change backup version with Darcy so that it is identified as 1010 or lower OS' backup. This also doesn't guarantee that all your backup data can be fully restored.

I had the idea that this only applied to larger increments, such as 10.3 to 10.2. Apparently I was mistaken.

So I guess I could've restored from 10.3.0.1418 to .1010. Never mind. I'll stay put with 1016 unless the wheels fall off.

Please allow me to quote my story which is little related to your experience.

While .bar files were still accessible on the production server of BlackBerry Limited, I tried to update (with Sachesi) device software of my Passport to OS 10.3.1.1010 and radio 10.3.1.1011 without knowing that 10.3.1.1011 radio is not signed. Installation stopped halfway when Sachesi encountered the following error.

    While sending: qc8974.wtr2-10.3.1.1011-nto+armle-v7+signed.bar
Error: failure 881 required signatures missing (AUTHOR)
Then I removed 10.3.1.1011 radio from and added 10.3.1.1017 radio to the Sachesi download directory and resumed installation (without checking the tick box [ ] Allow downgrades).

When the resumed installation was complete, my Passport started rebooting several times on its own and eventually reverted back to the previously installed OS with 10.3.1.1017 radio.

As I could not figure out what had gone wrong, I decided to freshly (destructively) install OS 10.3.1.1016 and radio 10.3.1.1017 on my Passport.

I also changed from 1016 back to 1010, but did a clean install without a restore. Anyway...no my Passport is running perfect without any issues. Battery life is superb and the device is fast and responsive. I'm happy :-)

Would you mind sharing 1011 radio .bar file installed on your device?

The 1011 radio .bar file I have got on my PC cannot be installed on my Passport.

Does 1010 have the diagnostic display when swiped from the top left?
I always suspected this was the cause of the flicker.

Yes it does. Still it flickers without the diag display active. I went back to 10.3.0.1418, on 10.3.1.1010 I had battery problems and also softbricked the device. Will wait for a leak optimised for our phones.

my mistake i load the Passport_10.3.01.1016_SQW100-1-2-3 and get softbricked. never manage to download 1010.
i guess its dead end for 1010 or 1016 until we get optimised leak for passport.
anyone knows when will official 10.3.1 comes out??

I went to 1010 after having 1016 for 5 days, had problem with battery life and flickering on 1016. Wipe and reload(Autoloader 1010) has fixed the battery life and reduced the flickering to some extent. 1010 seems to be better optimized for Passport

Same issue with screen flickering on 1016 when I did the OTA from AT&T, only real problem I've had with the OS.

Was going to try and see if a device switch would bring back a couple games from my Z10 that aren't available on the PP and that really screwed thing up(to many issue's to post about). Anyways, to make a long story short, I reflashed 1016 from an autoloader and low and behold, no screen flickering at all, no jerky animations, and battery has settle down to what it was like on the release OS from rogers.

I read somewhere that the Power Saving feature is causing the flickers, so try turning them off completely, I have not had the flickers since turning this off.

How are you find the Passport after installation of 10.3.1.1010 ?

Has it resolved most of your problems? How's the battery life?

    Thanks for answering !!!

I got the 10.3.1.1016 update OTA from AT&T the day it came up, almost good for few days but was buggy, it actually did not upgraded properly, a lot of junk remained from the old OS and got stuck and not even able to remove them, the flickering and signal was also bad. Then downgraded to 1010 and could not restore not even media alone from 1016, tried to change the backup date via Darcy tools to an earlier built but no luck. So tried to install again 1016 and my phone bricked, I got it working again and installed with 1010 and restored only media and couple apps from a backup of over a month from my last Z10, the one I used to transfer the stuff from my Z10 to my shiny new Passport then. Very happy with 10.3.1.1010 now, not perfect but almost perfect and a daily driver now.

I can now confirm that flashing the 1010 autoloader then reflashing just the core fixes a lot of problems. In fact, for 2 days I am trouble free, no flickering, no heat, no excessive battery drain. Pretty happy so far.
PS: no restore, clean install and everything set up again but is worth it
