Imagine if BB had gone to one OS for all BBs dome 5,...10 years ago. I believe BB would definitely be in a better position today!

So the 9810 and the 9900 OS's were able to be used on each other? Did not know that.

I interpret it as all devices being upgradeable to the latest OS (for at least 2-3 years anyway as Apple have done), rather than as happened with a lot of them not being 7.0 compatible etc. Has left so many OS versions out there for BB, poor user experience and everyone as a result thinks current BB's are like old OS5 ones

Well a Z10 STL100-1 and a Z10 ZTL100-2/3/4 cannot use the same OS either. However BB10 can be used on all Z10s just like the 9810 and 9900 both run BBOS7

In BBOS you will notice that the major OS release numbers 5,6,7 correspond to significant hardware changes. Other than support for the hardware, and the capabilities better hardware on later devices provides, BBOS 5,6 and & are the same OS. A program properly written to run on BBOS 5 (or even 3 or 4) will run on a BBOS 7 device. So, I am also at a loss as to what the OP means.

New features introduced in later releases of BB OS weren't available to older phones? The browser for example sucked and no way to improve it even though BB OS 7 wasn't too bad, earlier devices couldn't benefit from it

Not sure what OP wanted to say?
One software version for all models? If so, not really possible as different hardwares....
Or maybe meant to be one release for at same time? At which, we unfortunatly do know carriers reactivity!

Apple have managed it, at least as far as the user is concerned, for 3 year old hardware, which is as long as most people keep a phone. Means most users have the same features and functions and prevents what BB suffered from. Windows also does this on PC's to a large extent.

Obviously hardware-dependent features won't work, and things may start to run sluggishly but at least they aren't just forgetting about users completely.
