Got an email saying the skype on my phone will not work as of July 1st

    Wot the eff??

(for some reason I can't upload pics to the CB app. Dunno what they did with the new updates)

    Here is the email:

We’ve noticed that you are, or previously were, using an older version of Skype that will be permanently retired. As a result, after Ju*ly*1,*20*17, you will no longer be able to sign in to these older versions of Skype. Recently updated or started using Skype on another device? Great, you can ignore this*email.

To keep talking with your family and friends, please update Skype to the latest version. It only takes a few minutes and all your contacts and conversations will be right there when you sign*in.

If you are unable to update, check our support site to see if Skype still supports your device and operating system. If it is no longer supported, you can still stay in touch with friends and family using Skype on other devices. The latest versions of Skype for all supported devices are available at https://www.skype.com/download. You can sign in using the same Skype*account.

Skype doesn't really treat the BB10 version as a BB10 version as well, it's really not. It's nothing but a ported Android version that hasn't been updated in forever and as such, is no longer supported.

    Old skype versions being retired..-screenshot-2017-06-07-21.32.52.png

    You can try...

    - Installing a higher version.
    - Patching a newer Android version.
    - Moving to a different app.

I got the same email, but it doesn't bother me because usually I don't use the mobile version of Skype because it's draining my battery.

Sounds like he may be using a mobile browser version. However, who knows how long that will last since many on here complain about browser issues.

As others have suggested, move up to a supported device. Things are only going to get worse for BB10 devices... We are now in 2017 right?!?

I use it only on PC. I use it only for work so I had the app instaled on my Passport but I keep it inactive.

I use version 4.9 on my Passport. Odd thing is I got the email to an address that is not associated with my BB or MS ID. It is the email I use for Amazon. I previously got the app from Amazon store but have since deleted it. Amazon must be tracking the version I'm using.

The Skype app has been rebuilt from scratch to be more in line with other existing messengers.

It's not a terrible idea, instead of building a new messenger, just update Skype and use the brand awareness.

Same thing BBM could have done a long time ago.

The new app actually looks pretty nice and seems to function well, I might test it out.

You are running this on BB10? If so are the chat notifications working consistently?

Yes to notifications. Works well on my Passport. Please remove any version from Amazon store first otherwise you may not be able to install it.

There is a tablet version available in Amazon Appstore that was updated in April 2017, you should be able to add it to your account via the website or another device and then search for it in My Apps. I am assuming due to the release date and the higher build number than the Phone app that this will still be functional.

I have the latest version running fine.

After installing the app and running it the first time, you need to reboot the phone.

Does it require Google Play? If so, can someone patch it?

Thanks Conite, will give it a try. I saw it not working, what is new?, gave up on it.
Interestingly, I do have Cobalt's mod, previously none of up to date Skype, neither from Amazon nor Play store would work. I had to resort to old one.

Links by Conite gave me working Skype on z30 10.3.2 and another 10.3.3. Takes about 30 minutes before Skype settles in, and connects calls, shows credit, all contacts.
    Thank you!
