Also, why can't BlackBerry just send updates directly to customers?

Things are different for android since there are so many variants and most carriers sell their own versions so there is some potential risk breaking the device I'd the update doesn't include specific software for that particular hardware, but it's not the case for BlackBerry devices.

It's such a shame that millions of users have no idea there is a better software and they are not even getting it.

One more thing he said in another of his tweets was that only shopBB and amazon device are getting the direct update.
This is exactly what he replied to a guy complaining about the update :
Guy: Not working. From India Q10 SQN 100-3 factory unlocked.
Michael Clewley: factory unlocked is different than ShopBB/Amazon purchase.

Yep, that worked for my Z30 that I bought from ShopBlackberry too. Shut the phone down, pulled the SIM, restarted the phone without any SIM, and it detected the software update. (connected via wifi of course). Or can probably use Blackberry Link software too.

Verified. Shut down phone with sim installed. Pulled sim and plugged into pc while off and no sim and let it boot and activate Link on the pc. Software update was there right away with icon.

My factory unlocked Z10 (003) on Wind in Canada didn't receive the OTA update as of 7pm today, instead of waiting untill the weekend, I went about it the "manual way" this evening, thanks to the good folks of this forum! So much good information!

The process was smooth, the only issue was after I "reload device software" Z10 was not able to connect to BlackBerry Link due to the famous "device setup not complete" error, had to wipe the unit twice to fix it.

10.3.1 looks nice and I hope everyone that have not received the update will get your OTA soon so you don't have to do it the "manual way". Cheers to all!

Wow, it's really disappointing that you had to wipe it. I am totally against wiping since it is a major pain in the neck to restore everything, especially android apps but you had no choice.

Yeah, it took a while to wipe, but it could be my fault, I might have rushed to get away from the Z10 "setup screen".

Doing the full restore right now and will check for issues after that. Thanks!.

They said to turn off your phone, take out the sim card, then turn your phone on, then turn on your wifi, then search for the update. If your device is unlocked it should work. It worked for me. For my z30 and passport
