You don't even have to type call anymore on the latest 10.3.1 leak and on 10.2.1 it always worked as well... assistant automatically came up when I started typing on the home screen, so there's no extra step either. If you aren't using official os for your phone then at least use the latest leak that's supposed to be for your phone... but most importantly don't bash BlackBerry here if you aren't even using official os especially since that always had this feature

Lack of smart dialling is a disappointment. Feature I mean is where you can dial names instead of numbers.

You call also type 'call home' and it will come up with call your contact named home.

Again, NOT what I'm talking about, try BOTH numbers AND letters. "Alpha-numeric" as in alphabet, and numbers... Like 1800THISWAY... Not sure how many times I've explained this already...

In the legacy devices like my Bold 9000 and Bold 9900, you can achieve alpha-numeric dialing simply by typing from the home screen. And it let you start with numbers without pressing alt, which makes sense because often when I ask for a number they start with "1800" so I have that typed already, then they continue with letters, so it doesn't make sense to have you go back, delete the wx00 that translated to 1800 in order to type the numbers, then the letters. So typing out wx00[alt]thisway (really would show wx00(:-41*) in the universal search, but there will be the "call" function that would show 1800THISWAY) would lead you to dial that alpha-numeric number. It was so quick and easy, I used to chuckle when I see my friends staring at their keypad trying to figure out which number went with each letter. But now I'm forced to do that too with my "new and improved" BB10? I hope it's just something wrong with my Q10 and it's fixed in 10.3.1 or something...

Hey slag, are your separating the numbers from the letters. It works when typing "call 1800 gofedex" but will only "search" if entered as "call 1800gofedex"

Without talking to it, having to launch assistant, or anything, then yes.

I don't type the call part, just the number, that's how it used to work, you simply type the number and that's it.

I would imagine now BlackBerry feels the need to have the user be a little more specific with the device being as data centric as it is now.

    Idk, just a thought.

I can't believe people aren't understanding the issue here. On my 9930, I could just type 800comcast and it would dial it perfectly. Now, typing "call 800 comcast" gets a "your call cannot be dialed" message. The bbos can understand that what I'm trying to dial is 8002662278 but by typing 800comcast. It just knew that a c was the 2, an O was the 6, ND so on. So many companies use words as their phone number, and I'm amazed BlackBerry has removed this smart dialing in bb10.

You can also open the phone app and switch to the dial pad and you will have the letters on each key to help you out dialing the phone numbers spelled as words.
