Seriously, I have a full keyboard and I can't dial alpha numeric numbers with the keyboard, I have to look at the dialer and figure out what numbers correspond with what number like someone without a full keyboard? It's amazing BB can't figure out how to put this in BB10 even though my legacy Bold 9000 and 9900 was able to do it... smh

You're on a Q10? So typing on physical keyboard doesn't register in number entry field?

Doesn't the dial screen come up, with letters under each corresponding number?

Yah, like any other phone without a keyboard. But I have a keyboard, like my 9000 and my 9900 had, and both of those I could simply type out the word and the phone would figure out the numbers for me instead of me staring at the on-screen keypad, dialing a number at a time like I'm slow or something...

Only if it's one of the numbers, the moment I type outside of the numbers it goes into search. With my 9000 and my 9900 running "outdated" legacy OS, I can type the numbers without anyting (wx00 for 1800) then hold alt and start typing letters, so for 1800DISCOVER I would simply type: wx00 then hold alt and type out DISCOVER and hit call and it'll figure out the numbers for me...

It boggles my mind how an "outdated" and "obsolete" OS could do this but BB10 couldn't... Unless there is something wrong with my phone, before my browser would always forget login information it's supposed to remember as well, but a restart fixed that, but the dialing issue is still the same...

I believe you can with instant actions from the home screen no? Just start typing the number (making sure you hit alt for numbers)

Maybe there's something wrong with mine then, because it's not working at all...

I can confirm on my Q10 that I could type the phone number by letter instead and the phone would dial it according to the dial pad correspondence.

Ok, so you can type out 1800DISCOVER on universal search and it'll figure out the numbers for you? Then there's something wrong with mine...

I hope you can do it without assistant and from the home screen. I don't like having conversations with an inanimate object and announcing to the world who I'm calling...

BlackBerry assistant works the same typing as talking, just start typing 'call 1 800 blk bery' on the home screen and it comes up with an option to call 1 800 blk bery

Is it not the same with 10.2? Just start typing on the homescreen, maybe even don't type 'call' first

Does it really make a difference whether it's from the home screen, BlackBerry Assistant, or the phone app? So long as it works. People get all hot and bothered over the silliest things sometimes.

Yah, not wanting to add additional steps to do things much older phones could do in 1 step is so silly. We should all be happy regardless of how many extra steps they add to everything. I have an idea, I think even for qwerty phones, they should make it so everytime you want to type something, you need to press the spacebar twice quickly, to tell the phone that you want to type. Don't be silly and get all "hot and bothered" by that.

It a good thing then, it removes a step, just start typing from the home screen! No need to start anything, just let the Instant Action (guess that works without BBAssistant) take care of it?

Here's what it looks like on my Q10:

    No alph-numeric dialing? REALLY??-img_20141124_082437.png

As soon as I type letters in, it looks like this:

    No alph-numeric dialing? REALLY??-img_20141124_082447.png

So, doesn't seem to work for me. Am I typing wrong? Did they roll back with 10.3.1?

This used to work prior to 1151, I skipped a couple leaks from the 632/634 which was solid and text would translate to numbers in the dialer. Probably coming back but it is a valuable bug to point out.

Prime example why BlackBerry hates leaks. The OS isn't for consumer use. From our perspective it's a bug, but reality is completely different.
