    Don't click Email. Click Advanced, then GMail.

    This will let you adjust the sync period to 30 days (default is 7 days) - it's the very last option.


    Using Gmail in the browser isn't such a bad experience, especially in Landscape, and full search is available through that. A bit clunky, but probably bearable.
