I'm a tad confused - now that BB10 doesn't use BIS but rather uses network data, do the BB features work, like BB Protect and Appworld and Travel etc? How is the connection made back to RIM, so to speak?

Does BB10 use a BB OS of some description so that the phone still looks and acts like a Blackberry? If that sounds like a dumb question then sorry, but I feel quite 'lost' about all this .....

(I'm still using a 9700 on OS7, and my ISP (Optus Aus) has just dropped Blackberry support, so I'm clueless how things now work for me.)

Yes, I recall that did happen once for a shopBlackberry 10.3.1 update back in March I believe. It lasted a couple of days until they shut it down.

All your services like Protect, Travel and App World all work, they're just uncompressed back to the server now.

All that BIS did was compress the data packets so tight, that it seemed miniscule for the data usage.
