    Hi there,

I recently purchased my first Blackberry device (a Q10) and have a few questions regarding the OS and apps.

    - When I open my screen from lock, my icons always appear very big and I have to pinch them back to normal size, is there anyway to avoid this?

    - What's app doesn't work I know. Has anyone tried What's up 10 and is it any good, or know of any native BB alternatives (if there is any)?

    - .APK files do I need Cobalt's google play to install these type of files? As i'd rather not have play on my device at all, just BB world apps.

    - Is there any video calling apps where I can call to android phones and vice versa?

    thank you very much!

Turn off magnify mode under accessibility settings.

Regarding APK files, you don't need the Google Play Store to install or run them. The Android runtime is part of the OS.

Regarding video calling apps, there's always BBM. But I know there are several others like Skype that will work.

    Enjoy your phone!

With BBM you can only make an audio call between BB10 and the other 2 OS's, no video call. I've heard about an app called "Zoom" that you can use for video call cross platform, but I never used it.

WhatsApp should still work until the end of the year, you can also install the Android APK which supports cross platform video calling.

    https://www.whatsapp.com/android/

You'll need to perform this work around though,

Whatsapp has guaranteed that it will support Android 2.1 by 2020. Can you ensure that it will also work on BB10, since it uses runtime 4.3?

If instagram apks, facebook and etc stop working, do native applications such as insta10, face pro, and so on, also have to stop working?

Anything could stop working at any time.

The BlackBerry Android Runtime is not fully compatible with Android 4.3.

    APIs change too.

This is a dying OS - buyer beware.

Except whatapps. Facebook, instagram, twitter works fine with a web shortcut url. Lost a website is like the apps you install on android.

Not true. The latest version allows video calling. I've successfully done a video call between a Z10 and a Priv

That's good new, but I don't have the option to video call my contacts who are using BBM on Android OS. Did you test it with non-blackberry Android devices? Does it work?

No, but I can't see why that would be any different, since the BBM version on the PRIV would be the same on any Android phone version 6 and up

It only works on BBM Enterprise, not the regular consumer version of BBM.

    First, it's called BB10.

    Second, are you serious?

As long as common email protocols remain the same. I think 2-3 years is safe.

Thanks guys! Just a quick one. I got messenger pro from Nemory Studios and it says it features headless messages but on my Q10 I can't seem to get it even after activating it in settings, any ideas? Or if not, any alternatives that feature headless chat? thanks.

If you are talking about Messenger for Facebook, the app doesn't work properly. Face10 is a good app, but Messenger not. I have to open the chat to see if I have a new message.

To be clear, only audio calls are possible between OS10 and Android/iOS users over BBM.
