    When was the purple arrow added? OS version? I think it appeared after replying to the email. But I always reply to email and this was the first time it appeared.

    Yeah, that is the notifier that you have replied to the email. There is also a blue notifier with the arrow pointed the other way for any email that you have forwarded as well

    Just to note, those indicators are on ActiveSync accounts such as Outlook.com, but not on IMAP accounts such as Gmail.

    Oooh! This explains this weird thing. I always use my Google account and this email is with my outlook.
