I have a q10, my kid has an android. Can anyone recommend a cross-platform app (bb10 and android) that lets me know his location? Thanks.

I couldn't find a cross platform one for you, hope someone else does. My suggestion is to use an Android app on your son's phone and the browser on the Q10.

Thank you. I thought about it but so far top rated apps in google play don't seem to offer browser option. Will keep looking.

Move to a small town! Before smartphones we could track our children quite accurately.

I realize I'm being a smart-***, but thought I'd throw it in just for giggles.

Glympse is cross platform, though it does require your kid to actually start it.

The good old days when you could depend on your neighbours to call (or shout across the back fence) to let you know what your little monsters ... I mean children were up to.

I second the motion for Glympse on BBM. You can actually request a Glympse location from someone instead of waiting for them to send it to you.

I am in the very envious position of having most of my grand-children growing up in rural / small town settings, where they can be given a good deal of time and space to roam and just be kids.

Does that mean that you don't have the expense of feeding them and paying for their education? If so, that's a good deal for you!

No - it's referring to the practice of letting your children actually BE CHILDREN - going to a nearby park unattended, that sort of thing.

4 or 5 years ago a couple in the USA actually got reported to the government and nearly had their children confiscated because they had allowed their 9 year old to take a 5 year old sibling to a park several blocks away, unattended by an adult. It started quite a lash back against the helicopter parenting that is terribly prevalent today.
