Yes Flash is DEAD - even before BB10 hit the market! So this argument does not hold up about being ahead of the trend. If that were true we would have never supported it to begin with!
It's still in wide use. I see no reason to drop it now. Why can't we support both flash & html5. That's the question I want answered.

Overview
Blackberry 10 OS*has been on the market for the past two years, and we continue to have the highest mobile HTML5 test score . We understand how important web browsing is to you, which is why we have always invested in giving you the best possible web browsing experience.
During this time Adobe has stopped Flash development support for mobile browsers. This is consistent with the shift of mobile web content generally moving towards HTML5. As a result we can no longer support Adobe Flash beginning with the upcoming software release of BlackBerry*10*OS*version*10.3.1.
We understand this may affect your web browsing experience and are working hard with major partners to lessen the effect this might have.
If you are a web developer, BlackBerry 10*supports a wide variety of media codecs, formats, and network protocols . If you have any questions on implementing video or audio on BlackBerry 10*please head over to our development forum and we will be happy to assist you.01-08-15 08:45 AMLike 0 - Listen!!!!!

Bb10 is one of the first to dully adopt html5 and leave flash for good... = ahead of the coming trend. personally I'm rather happy with them focusing on developing html5 capability and maintaining it as the top in the industry than having them waste time optimizing a dead tech with security problems.
Posted via crackberry10 on my new Z30!01-08-15 09:19 AMLike 0 - They're actually the last to end flash as a built-in function of their native browser AFAIK. They must have spent considerable development man hours to keep it and maintain security, something they don't have the cash to continue. Even Adobe admits the future is html5.

Was flash installed natively, or a plug-in through Google Play? Could swear Google dropped it over a year ago.
Edit - Hmmmmm...
The Impact of the Flash Player Unpublish Announcement on Android Video Delivery01-08-15 09:34 AMLike 0 - But they have the cash to develop a different passport for att? I know it's not completely different but it has a different body and includes wireless charging. So for the sake of argument wireless charging is the future, why don't all devices have that capability?

Wireless charging is something available exclusively for the VZW Z30, so this isn't a new carrier requested feature. Cars are starting to have conductive chargers as options. It's been around for years, and gaining in popularity.
Who's going to give BlackBerry financial incentive to continue flash development?01-08-15 09:44 AMLike 0 - I've done plenty of research first of all. Secondly, if those who make it ie adobe cease to produce or support a product, ie flash for mobile browsing, it's like several others have said, you're either ahead of mainstreamed or behind the move. For the first time blackberry is actually ahead of the move which is a good thing. Yes sites still use it, and yes every site will be moving AWAY From it in the future. Such is the ebb and flow of technology. I get it you don't like change but that's the facts of the matter as they stand right now and arguing over it is pointless.

It's not that we don't like change, we do, or at least I do and usually I'm right with the curve of things. The simple fact that cannot be disputed is that a large majority of major sites still use Flash and BlackBerry dropping it has now limited many of our access to the major news/video/web sites.
Yes we can go download a third-party browser and get an inferior experience but one that will work, but it's not a native experience and it's not one that we should be forced to do if we want major content.
I miss being able to stream live hockey legally on the go. Now I have to use a modified version of the NHL android app to get it, and it's just not as smooth as the web browser version when I had signed into my account. That's just a single example of literally hundreds I've encountered this last month!
We get it. Flash development is dead. But Flash itself is far from dead in terms of web use and application. All BlackBerry did now was limit their users content and save maybe a few million dollars (don't bother linking me to how it saved 'hundreds' of millions, that was just Adobe Air and the article author decided to include Flash in that article despite its inaccuracy.)
Praise be unto our Lord Squircle | Passport SQW100-1/10.3.1.115401-08-15 09:58 AMLike 0 - Why does everyone assume that the only legitimate use for Flash is for porn? Is this not getting really old? A ton of content is still Flash only, no HTML5 support. I browse a lot, hence I come across Flash content often. Sometimes I purposely switch certain video content to Flash from HTML5 because for whatever reason it runs better, or gives more control over features.
Well, now let's get serious for a minute. Adobe dropped Flash support years ago but not only for mobile, even for some desktop environment (for example Linux). Today, they officially support Windows (for PC) and Mac OS while all others operating system and platforms are struck at version 11. In Linux there are some workarounds you can do if you want to get Flash support with a third-party plugin, but officially Adobe dropped support.
The whole story started when Steve Jobs (R.I.P.) decided not to bring Flash to the iDevices. Flash wasn't already under the best lights, because it already had several security issues and it needed a lot of resources to run, as it still does today.
This is the explanation why BlackBerry dropped it: security and performance. When using Adobe Flash in the BlackBerry Browser it used to take about 400 MB in your RAM, draining the battery to hell! And it wasn't smooth the same. Now the world is focusing to HTML5 because it offers better performance (even if I'd have a lot of thing to criticize JavaScript...), it's easier to use (for programmers) and it has more features that can bring it to the success. One thing I don't understand is why BlackBerry, focusing on performance, has written its browser in HTML5 instead of native Cascade/Qt. I hope they'll rewrite it soon so we can have huge performance improvements and less battery draining even when surfing the net.
For Flash users: I know it's not the best news you can get, but Flash is going to die very soon even on computers and webmaster will have to update their sites very soon if they don't want to lose visitors. My apologies. I decided to uninstall Flash even on my computer almost one year ago because it made my navigation experience too laggy, and today just a few thing are missing; you can work some of them around with some plugins that modifies the page code runtime bringing support to HTML5 "on-the-go", some other you want get back, but they're just a few and most of them are ads.
Maybe BlackBerry could have kept Flash support for longer time, but they decided to drop it and now the only alternative is third-party Android browser that use a third-party plugin.
And after this long explanation I leave, bye!!!
P.S.: but the real question is: when the hell will they bring AdBlock Plus to the browser?!?

- Not sure where you got the 'fact being hateful ' I knowingly installed the leak knowing flash was out. Doesn't change my attitude towards it being removed. They should at least allow us to change the user agent of our browser so we can access those sites which don't play nice with the bb10 browser.

- I know you think that worked, but I just tried it for craps and giggles, fully expecting the result I got. Fact is almost all YouTube videos format for html5, and that plug-in did nothing for your native browser. Try this link, and you'll see.
Flash is being fazed out. HTML5 is the new standard and Flash was not invited. There is a lot of content online that still uses Flash. This has helped me in viewing the sites I visit.01-08-15 03:20 PMLike 0
