Google maps can be better than BlackBerry maps in many situations. I consider it necessary, and use it at least monthly.

I really don't get why BB didn't use the existing openstreetmap data OSMand+ relies on in return for some millions for supporting the project.

I wrote "....the post by martin zimmerman"....are you on a rampage or something?
Quote from the comment by Zimmerman, author's boss at the time : "The BlackBerry OS had both a public and private existence, what the public believed was the OS, was primarily the Java JVM" ...jvm=java virtual machine. it wasn't just about the article but about the comment made by his boss as well...if you follow....Java is strongly related to Android ...i hope you can follow me..."There were implementations of the BlackBerry JVM running on PlayBook, and later on BB10."....do you follow me? "....The memory requirements (as mentioned previously) were significant. The same was true about the Android runtime...." could you read the article before dissing more posts?

Sorry, I missed the part about Zimmerman.
I did read the article and the comments.
Anyone looking at what you wrote originally even if they realized you were talking about Zimmerman's comments would likely not know what you were talking about.
I do see what you driving at now.
Your making more sense than usual.
Please keep it up the good work.

"....I know that there were some major features in BBOS that Mike L. was *never* aware of, features that he felt he had to turn to QNX for, even though that was not the case." this..this is powerful stuff right here. So Mike Lazaridis didn't knew how powerful BBOS was..

Because they chose to partner with Tom-Tom.

Fairly irrelevant. He knew it's weaknesses, which were many. A different core was absolutely necessary, if they had any chance moving forward.

If you know better than the people who ported the QNX core to the POIX Api s what could I say?
Martin Zimmerman :" ...features that he felt he had to turn to QNX for, even though that was not the case."

Brian Jung Myeng Lee: "I was one of the two people tasked with porting QNX to a development board at Research In Motion -- what is now BlackBerry -- before BB10 efforts started. "
Martin Zimmerman reinstates that what people believed to be the BBOS is was mostly the JVM.
Martin Zimmerman :"The BlackBerry OS had both a public and private existence, what the public believed was the OS, was primarily the Java JVM, the public had very little exposure to or even knowledge of the existence of the actual OS that powered the JVM. So many of the issues and performance were from the JVM, and a strong reluctance from the JVM group to implement changes suggested and recommended by the OS group."

Did you bother reading the article before dissing ?

In regards to the Native Blackberry 10 apps and previous posts about JVM and JAVA in general, Android apps are programmed mainly in JAVA (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Androi...re_development), (Why does Android use Java? - Stack Overflow) unless programmed in the fairly new, Ken Thompson involved, GO programming language [ https://godoc.org/golang.org/x/mobile/app , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_(pr...ing_language)] which would make it a different story hence the importance of leaving the Android apps uninstalled on the BB10. Notice the threads below opened on these issues? As stated at the opening of this thread which was opened way before the ones below were started. This thread was started 7th of JAN

Someone wrote in a post above that am doing this out of a principle more than something practical, the links above say otherwise.
Even the apps coded in, the BB provided, WebWorks framework have issues but that is another discussion.
