Does the future of the company depend on its mobile platform or not?01-02-15 05:31 AMLike 0
- No. Buy the one whose approach you like best and whose limitations, which they all have, bothers you the least.
Example - the app situation is enough of a limitation for me that it's a deciding factor in what I use as my daily driver. The LED is not that critical to me that it's a deciding factor. Having DuckDuckGo as an option out of the box AND Google Now as an app is a key option for me. These are MY preferences. So I choose what is closest to MY ideal which I fully understand is not yours. Therefore MY real life answer to the rhetorical question of which is the best OS is then the best OS is the one that comes closest to the ideal, understanding that each unique person's unique set of needs and preferences would have an ideal that is different from mine. And that's OK.
Vive la diffrence.

- Fair enough.
I'm interested in knowing how long you have been a BB10 user? I had similar options when I first switched to BB10.
But after 8 months I can tell you the it's limitations have become more and more problematic. I know you dislike Google Services (The feature, not the general term) but they are integral to most people as you can't sync calender or contacts. This is a big deal. Not having Chrome bookmark/history sync is a very big deal too.
Also, there are ways to limit or prevent Google from using your info to sell ads ect.
Like them or not they make the best search engine. They also have done some great things recently to prevent NSA spying into their servers as well as added encryption as a default.

Some things I don't care for as much like Google Now.
Google's business model doesn't really factor in to how I feel about Android as an operating system
I just think that Google has spent more time developing features that advance its business model than it does developing features that are otherwise useful but don't advance its business model. For example, why is off device search so good but on-device search so bad?

There is a lot of Android out there.
Over the years, manufacturers have added skins and features. Google didn't like that too much and it started to negotiate deals to keep Android as close to the "Google Experience" as possible. So today, carrier skins and add one are considered to generally be less intrusive.
But, where changes are made, they are along the lines of the S Finder that has been discussed here. Samsung tries to make a more robust search tool, but that leaves you with multiple search tools with overlapping function. This is something that many people don't like about Android but it is getting better.
In the past with email, there was one app for Gmail and another app for other email accounts. Now, with Lollipip, Gmail handles all your email accounts. That's a step in the right direction. But, you still have to switch between the accounts. There is no option to show all your email at the same time.

BlackBerry 10 - good os management, good hub, no app
Ios - good os management, good app
Android - average os management (tend to be lame), good app
Assuming phone $500
Passport
Iphone 6
Galaxy note 4
MOST people will choose iphone 6 or Note 4, because they give more powerfull app. Please underline MOST

The real issue for BlackBerry 10 imo, is not the capabilities or maturity of the OS, but simply the native apps.01-02-15 09:21 AMLike 0 - Whoopsadaisy. I think you've gotten a bit ahead of yourself. Keep in mind that those using a skinned version of Android far outnumber those using vanilla, and devices that have manufacturer have a lot more native features than vanilla Android. For example, on my Note I have:
http://i.imgur.com/zfU842A.png
Sad part about the note is your pictures took three pages to view on my PC! OH, and the file manager is still limited. I have used all platforms,.. and find the Blackberry to handle files the best. I put my Z30 on my desk, my PC folder in open view I see my files and can manage them so easy. The connection to my files is instant. Bur to each his/her own. Everyone has there FAV!
S Finder, accessible through the notification tray. It's Samsung's universal search. I did a search for "Target" and here's what came up:
http://i.imgur.com/EfKatGJ.jpg
I got the website from Chrome, the deal emails they send me, and texts where the sender mentions Target. The emails also indicate if a message is read or unread.
On my Note, I can indeed choose a contact picture and ringtone for every contact (but no vibration or LED options). I *think* when I had my LG G2 there was an option to change LED color as well, but I'm not certain anymore since I haven't used that phone in awhile.
Finally, your assertion that BB10 is the only OS with native file management is just plain wrong. File management, again, depends on the manufacturer skin, but many devices come with native file managers. This is the native file manager on my Note, and as you can see there's also cloud integration.

Again, It would be different if vanilla Android was the ONLY option and EVERYONE who used an Android device was limited to just that. However, manufacturers have to make their Android devices as enticing as they can to sway the masses to their brand, so they offer lots more native features than just what's found on vanilla Android.01-02-15 09:25 AMLike 0 -
- "Really" depends on your point of view.
If you're talking apps - then IOS, without a doubt. IOS is treated as a first-class platform by developers (more so than Android in my experience) and typically the apps are polished and full-featured.
Android if you want choice: there's a phone for every price point and feature set.
I can't speak to Windows Phone at all. I respect Microsoft's willingness to take chances with OS design and there's something about the clean lines and typography that really appeals to me - but I found it to work poorly in practice.
I find BlackBerry to be the best for composing and sharing. I'm able to crank out emails, reply to texts, post to Facebook, Twitter, etc. faster than any other OS I've used. I think there are a lot of good ideas in there that need to be fleshed out further, for example: the share framework, cloud integration, universal search, et al. There are also really interesting ideas that they can do in terms of deeper BBM integration (I think screen share and Glympse are some examples, but imagine real-time collaborative editing of documents with your BBM colleagues, BBM voice and video integrated into the Phone app...) That said, the "app gap" is a serious and persistent problem and will prevent it from ever being a mainstream OS.01-02-15 09:46 AMLike 0 - Android has one purpose: getting people to use Google services so Google can sell ads. That is where the resources go.
Apple is too concerned with getting you into the entire Apple ecosystem that the product suffers because of it. Apples great as long as you like all the choices apple makes for you. Apple devotes resources into designing proprietary cables instead of just using USB. Apple wants to get every nickel it can from you.

Android does not have it. Factually incorrect. if it does, please tell me where the icon is so I can activate it on my Moto X.
Not really. I don't use Google for anything. outlook does just fine.
No one said any different. Every phone has it's limitations. Again....another moot point completely off topic.
Sooooo...........which facts did the OP not get straight? You just illustrated that apparently it's you that are not well versed in all the facts as I pointed them out above.Chrisy likes this.01-02-15 10:14 AMLike 1 -
"The best" is always subjective unless you are using data to quantify and quality the statement.
Example, you could say which is the fastest, which is the most economical in terms of OS size, etc. But when one gets into what is a "better" feature, that's completely subjective. Even a discussion of apps gets subjective - there are those who consider android apps to be quasi native because of Blackberry's Android runtime. Some see running Android apps as a feature. I see it as a workaround to a problem than in itself causes another problem. - the app developer abandonment of BBW.
"Best" when used in all the bullet points in this thread are subjective. Therefore personal. Therefore open to interpretation as to the definition of "best.".
Sent from my Q10 using Tapatalk01-02-15 10:31 AMLike 3 - Yes, you could see it that way. I'm simply pointing out that the OP didn't really seriously ask anyone their opinion. He simply used a method often used way of getting people to read further. You know, like when Fox News has a banner on the screen that might say "Is Obama a Socialist?" Of course the answer is no, but it certainly gets peoples attention.
He didn't say it was a new feature nor did he compare it to a dead OS like WebOS.
Android does not have it. Factually incorrect. if it does, please tell me where the icon is so I can activate it on my Moto X.
Neither are a universal inbox. But what does email have to do with anything? And who asks "who emails anyway"? Oh, I know, someone that isn't a professional in business.
I'm not sure if others do custom ringtones, or understand what you're asking me about some quintessential feature. Or is that the same defense as saying "who emails anyway?".
No one did, so this entire paragraph is moot.
Not really. I don't use Google for anything. outlook does just fine.
And yet for some reason I get push email seamlessly from Outlook, and can get contacts and calendar the same way.
Which has absolutely nothing to do with anything the OP said in his post and wreaks of desperation in your argument.
No one said any different. Every phone has it's limitations. Again....another moot point completely off topic.

- Non of them are perfect, they all have annoying little issues and why can't this do that like the other one. Lollipop is nice in the looks department, but seems to have gone backwards with some basic features and is unstable, iOS freezes up a lot, apps crash a lot and gestures stop working at will, BB10 seems to be getting better and is more rock solid on the PassPort, a few android apps don't work well and that annoying thing of not being able to edit a phone number copied into the phone app is still there.....File management is still the best on BB10Chrisy likes this.01-02-15 10:54 AMLike 1
- Hey lawguyman, don't worry to convince these people they will be more hack in their phones and then they will be sorry! If Sony got hack, there will be more to come just give the hackers a little time. I believe build fence around the nice landscape first before wild pigs destroy it. You don't put fence after wild pigs destroyed it like Sony did! It went back to BlackBerry for their communication after hacked. If I am the boss at Sony, the IT people out.
