I really hope if BlackBerry takes a look on this thread.

It looks like the Phone app in 10.3.1 has a memory leak issue.
Generally after a fresh restart, Phone app takes around 50MB of ram. But over the time, the more we have call, the more memory it takes. And these allocated memory by Phone app are not getting released. It has a memory leak symptom where memory increases over the course of time. Now on my phone the app takes around 130MB already after several calls with my mom.

My device is Z3STJ100-1/10.3.1.2243. I have noticed this since upgraded to 10.3.1 and haven't seen it's been fixed in any OS yet. I haven't got a chance to upgrade to latest leak to see if it's fixed there yet but I don't think it is.

I've only ever heard of one other user with this issue and he is also on a Z3: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...l#post11397640
Because so few users have it, I don't really know what causes it and I haven't heard whether or not it's been fixed in the newest OS version, but from what I've seen so far, the new OS Versions (10.3.1.2558 and 10.3.1.2576) seem pretty good, fixing many bugs that existed in 10.3.1.2243 and 10.3.1.2267 without introducing too many new ones so I would upgrade when you have a chance.

Thanks. I'll try the new leaks and see if it's fixed. Another thing is I'm using CallExtTimer so that it vibrates when connect/disconnect the call. I delete the app to see if it's has any impact. Thanks again.

It s there even in new build latest leak 10.3.1.2582, it starts to 16mb after a fresh install, then the more we make calls the more memory using by phone app, I don't know it is a bug or it is normal. There was a thread in Z3 forum.

I've seen my phone app gets to 150 mb RAM. Ridiculous. I've also seen the browser getting to 350mb (reported) with only one open tab (many opened earlier but closed) and after killing it actually frees 500 mb (I don't know where the extra RAM for the browser hides).

Reported the issue before and ppl were like - "why would you open so many tabs", "you aren't using it right ", "don't worry about the RAM, OS knows to handles it".

Almost daily I get "low memory warnings".

Also, watch how "smarties" will start teaching you that this isn't a memory leak.

    hi

thanks for the suggestion, but it didnt help much..

the main problem is the phone app is eating lots of ram and the worst thing is we cannot kill it manually without reboot..

i am not happy with blackberry OS. It sucks..

I have also been experiencing this as well. Z30STA100-5/10.3.1.2582

On another note, I'm having the OS close apps I have open far too frequently. I'll have browser open and CB10 app and after some time browsing, I'll swipe out of browser to find the CB10 app shell waiting to be relaunched. I've never had this issue before 10.3.1 I'm not too impressed. Memory management seems to be absolutely crap in this.

You guys should go back to 10.2.1 and gain features such as Flash, non-iOS looking UI, and a calendar that works properly.

This isn't a memory leak. The phone app keeps all the pictures of your recent contacts and a ton of info about stuff so that it can launch quickly.

Unfortunately when answering a call there is a small delay, which is weird, but I'm sure is being worked on.

I don't have any contact pictures, and my phone app isn't spritely either. In fact, as the memory consumption has increased over the weeks, the app (and device) have become more laggy.

If the reason for the memory use is the phone app intentionally caching data and pictures for fast access, then I would expect it to reach full size shortly after opening it for the first time and scrolling through the missed calls etc, which is not the case.
Irrespective, 220MB just for a phone dialler is unacceptable by anyone's standards.

Don't listen to Mad_mdx. He is the keeper of the holy mountain of "memory leak" and will try anything possible defend it. What he always misses is that there is a problem, and calling it A or AA is not we care about.

220 mb RAM phone app is ridiculous, no matter what, at least on a device with 2gb RAM.

LOL whuuut 200mb+ of RAM for contact pictures!? Do you know the meaning of RAM?

RAM is where the OS stores program variables for computation and fast processing of data. Fast processing means on that instant only. Why would RAM stores 200mb of contact data if the phone app itself is not running/processing those data.

RAM and the memory storage (Storage) are two different things. That's why there's CPU tab and Storage tab on device monitor.
