I know this is somehow related to the horrible contacts app on my Z30STA100-5/10.2.1.3247 but I was wondering if there are some trouble shooting steps I can take.

These issues started suddenly after restoring my device after it was accidentally wiped. I drive an Audi if it matters.

I used to say for example when calling my wife, "call Jane Smith work" and it used to just dial her work number.

Now I get 5 options and I have to pick one but some contain her email address only or her Facebook info etc.

It used to also show the work home or cell logo on my car screen. Now all calls display the cell symbol.

My son for example only has one number in my address book. His cell. So I'll say, call "Mark Smith Cell" and I'm greeted with three options. The in car system will show 3 Mark Smiths and ask me to select one. One is his email account and of course I get "this contact is unavailable to call" I'll instruct again and pick #2 and get his Facebook email address with the same message and finally #3 I'm greeted with his cell and it will dial.

I also notice all contacts have their surname duplicated so my screen will say "connected to Mark Smith Smith" OR "John Davidson Davidson"

I've never uploaded my contacts into my in car computer it just always connects to my phone book. Never been an issue before.

It's reached the point where I need to physically grab my phone, go to contact and press dial manually or I'm only greeted with the cell phone logo on my in car display and I'm guessing which one will make the call.

What a mess

Anyone have any solutions or trouble shooting steps. Here's my address book settings (personal info blocked out)

I hate this linking contacts..... rant for another forum but I'd really appreciate help with this Bluetooth mess.

I just took the 10.2.1.3442 update. Didn't do anything to fix the issue.

It's not really a bluetooth issue afaik. It's the messy contacts app.

Usually happens if you synchronize with social apps like Facebook or Skype.

Skype has been known for being especially nasty in this respect... :-)

Open your contacts app and verify that all of them are linked correctly. For instance, find your wife in the list. Long press and touch Select Many. Touch all of the contacts with her name in the list, then select Link. You will now only have one contact for your wife. It took maybe 5 minutes to do my entire phone book.

In the future you can avoid this issue by keeping your contacts in your accounts instead of on your phone. Just add the account and sync the contacts and you'll be done. Don't restore your contacts from a backup.

People don't seem to understand that no amount of software can reliably link all contacts. If you have Jane Smith from your personal email account, and her BBM is Jane, BB10 will never link them. You should always clean up your contacts app manually after you load them all up. I hope this helps.

Thank you. This worked like a charm and corrected everything. If I may make a correction after going nuts trying to find "select many", on the long press it's select "MORE".

Then as you said I selected the similar accounts and linked them. I can't believe though that for example my son had two contact cards on my phone and in one, his cell number appeared 6 times.

Yes I believe that the contact app can be useful but I also believe that these extra steps should not be required.

My own personal commentary is that BlackBerry proclaims productivity. I shouldn't need to have to do all this phone book management after entering a contact.

In any event, thank you for your help. You solved my issue :-)
